12/21/17 @ 2:30 p.m. - County Offices will be closed from Friday, December 22nd through Tuesday, December 26th. All offices will return to regular business hours at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27th, with the exception of the Nassau County Convenience Center, as they are always closed on Wednesdays. They will reopen on Thursday, December 28th at 8:00 a.m.
We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend! -Sabrina Robertson Nassau County Manager's Office 12/20/17 @ 4:30 p.m. - The County received notification this morning that Norfolk Southern Railroad will be temporarily closing the crossing on Woods Lane on Thursday, December 21st. The County's Interim Public Works Director, Ms. Becky Bray, has been in contact with Norfolk Southern who has assured her that they have a contingency plan to accommodate emergency service vehicles and buses. They will do their best to accommodate residents in the area as well, however the less traffic, the quicker the repairs can be completed. If you are able to avoid the crossing, please try to do so. Norfolk Southern will have all the work completed tomorrow to minimize disruptions.

The Florida Department of Transportation has completed their debris removal on State right-of-ways in Nassau County and WILL NOT perform another debris removal pass in our County.
As of Monday, December 11th at 5:00 p.m., the debris drop off locations have been closed. Therefore, if you reside on a private road or in a private subdivision, you will be responsible for hauling your debris elsewhere. Residents can also burn yard debris in accordance with burn guidelines issued by the Florida Dept. of Agriculture. CONTRACTORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HAULING OFF THEIR OWN DEBRIS AND ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO PLACE IT IN ANY COUNTY OR STATE RIGHT-OF WAYS. Any resident or business owner with questions or concerns regarding debris removal on State right-of-ways should contact Irene Cabral, FDOT Emergency Coordination Officer at (850)414-5336 or email her at [email protected]. -Megan Sawyer County Manager's Office ![]() 12/11/17 @ 11:45 a.m.- On Wednesday, December 6th, Nassau County Manager, Shanea Jones, made a presentation to Youth Leadership Nassau as part of their government day curriculum. Ms. Jones spoke about the role of the Board of County Commissioners and their responsibilities to the citizens of Nassau County. The students were asked to identify services and answer questions related to the operations of the County. The students did a great job and were very knowledgeable about services and facilities provided by the Board. They were also able to have dialog with the County Manager about the Board's challenges and limitations, as well as plans for future growth. They were a very impressive group of students! Government Day is designed to provide the students with a greater understanding of the dynamics and role of government within the County and the Municipalities. In addition to their interaction with County Manager, Shanea Jones, the students met Nassau County Tax Collector, John Drew, School Board Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Burns, and a representative of the Supervisor of Elections Office. The students participated in a mock election and learned how to vote. Youth Leadership Nassau is a program of the Nassau County Extension Office as part of their Youth Development Services. All 10th and 11th graders with a "B" or better Grade Point Average are eligible to apply. The objective is to provide the participants with an understanding of the problems, opportunities and issues facing our community while developing their leadership skills. DECEMBER 5, 2017 Debris removal on County maintained roads located within the unincorporated areas of Nassau County began on Monday, September 18, 2017. To date, 207,529 cubic yards of debris has been removed from the County rights-of-way. It is anticipated that all debris in front of residential properties (both construction and vegetative) will be removed by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15th. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE FINAL CALL FOR DEBRIS. If you have any additional vegetative debris that has not yet been placed in the right-of-way, the deadline to do so is Monday, December 11th at 5:00 p.m. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. Both debris drop off locations, the debris email address, and debris hotline will be closing at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11th. If you have any additional debris that you need to notify the contractor about, please email [email protected] prior to December 11th at 5:00 p.m. This is their preferred method of communication. However, if you need to speak with someone, you may also call them at (904) 451-7609. Just a reminder, FEMA restrictions do not allow the contractor to remove debris from private roads, commercial properties or apartment complexes. Property owners can haul their vegetative debris free of charge to one of the drop off locations listed below, however please keep in mind these sites cannot be used by contractors (property owners only with proof of residency).
Both sites are currently open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., seven days per week. The Press Release includes boundaries for the rabies alert, as well as precautions on protecting yourself and your pets.
