12/30/20 @ 3:55 p.m. - The Nassau County Health Department will host drive-through COVID-19 testing at Yulee Middle School from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2nd.

100 tests will be available on a first, come first served basis and is free to Nassau County residents (with proof of residency).

The Nassau County Department of Health has issued the following message regarding the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine:

"Following the initial distributions to high-risk frontline health care workers and long-term care facility staff and residents, we will work to provide the vaccine to additional priority groups, to include older adults over 65.   

As of December 29th we started delivering vaccines to our emergency (EMS) responders, urgent care providers and other health care providers with direct patient contact.  Once that is complete, we plan to provide the vaccine to the priority group of older adults over 65.  We do not have an exact timeline for providing the vaccine to these priority groups but we are committed to providing the vaccine to each priority group and to the general public as quickly as possible.   Our plans are dependent on vaccine supply and delivery.   
 
Updates on timelines for the general public will be provided as those plans become available. Please monitor the OneNassau website (www.onenassau.com) from Nassau County Emergency Management for updates.  As this is a rapidly evolving process, we appreciate your patience.
 
In the interim, please follow the recommended safety measures".

Keep Nassau Beautiful Hosts Free Tree Drive-through Events
 
In celebration of Florida Arbor Day Keep Nassau Beautiful plans to distribute up to 500 free trees to Nassau County residents.

Beginning Saturday, January 16 and on subsequent Saturdays in January Keep Nassau Beautiful (KNB) volunteers and partner organizations will be holding three free-tree drive-through events where residents will pick-up one or two free trees to be planted in Nassau County. 

Individuals, businesses, and organizations may reserve free trees by completing two easy steps; reviewing UF/IFAS tree fact sheets for the available species and viewing an educational video led by UF/IFAS Nassau County Extension.  Once the on-line learning is complete residents will be ready to complete the reservation form to select their preferred tree species and pick-up location.  Completion of the reservation form is required 72 hours prior to the drive-through event.  Nassau County proof of residency and a KNB free-tree voucher are required to pick up one or two of our 3-gallon size trees.  Residents are also asked to help the tree get its best chance at a healthy long life by following a watering schedule until the tree gets established.

Free tree drive-through events are scheduled as follows:  Fernandina Beach, Saturday, Jan. 16, Callahan, Saturday, Jan. 23, and Yulee, Saturday, Jan. 30.  All events will be held between 9am – Noon.  Details and reservation form at https://keepnassaubeautiful.org/news-and-events/.

The project is being generously funded through dedicated grants, fundraising activities and private donations.  Liberty Landscape Supply sponsors the supply of up to 7-species of trees for the drive-through events.

Streaming of Tourist Development Council Meetings

Northeast Florida Regional Leadership Award Winners Announced
 
Jacksonville, FL – The Northeast Florida Regional Council (NEFRC) announced the winners of the 2020 Northeast Florida Regional Leadership Awards this week. In light of the current pandemic, award winners will be recognized in their individual counties rather than at a central event. The NEFRC awards these honors each year to recognize the best projects and the brightest leaders in the Region.
 
The Regional Awards recognition program is anchored by the Regional Leadership Award, given to a leader who exemplifies service to community and commitment to regionalism. This year’s recipient of the Northeast Florida Regional Council Regional Leadership Award is recently retired Florida Times Union Editorial Page Editor Mike Clark. Mr. Clark has worked tirelessly to give unbiased views on the top issues affecting our region.
 
Other award winners include St. Johns County’s Workforce Housing Zoning Designation in the Affordable Housing category; Azalea City Brewing located in the City of Palatka in the Adaptive Reuse category; the Baker County Chamber of Commerce in the Economic Development category; the First Coast Disaster Council’s response to COVID-19 in the  Healthcare/Emergency Preparedness category, the Nassau County Conservation Land Acquisition and Management Program in the Environmental Stewardship category, the Western Nassau Heritage Preservation Vision Book in the Planning and Growth Management category; the City of Jacksonville’s Project Save Lives in the Public Safety category, the Floodplain and Stormwater Management Program in Palm Coast in the Resilience category, and the TPO’s Path Forward 2045 in the Transportation category, the Long Term Recovery Organization in the Quality of Life category.

12/17/20 @ 11:30 a.m. - At yesterday's meeting, the Board of County Commissioners presented Resolution No. 2020-202 and a plaque to Vicki P. Cannon for her service to the citizens as Supervisor of Elections.

Ms. Cannon served five consecutive terms from January 2, 2001 through January 4, 2021. During her tenure, she served on a panel of seven Florida Supervisor of Elections to advise the State Affairs Committee and Oversight Transparency and the Public Management Subcommittee of the Florida House of Representatives. She was also appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to serve on the Restoration of Voting Rights Work Group. She holds a Certification as a State of Florida Election Administrator and is a Certified Municipal Clerk from the Institute of Government, Florida State University.

Ms. Cannon gave unsparingly of her time and energy to ensure that voters have knowledge in election procedures and that elections were done securely and in compliance with local, state and federal law.

Ms. Cannon will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of working for her and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.
