This outside firm spends about 4 weeks each year studying the Board's controls and processes to ensure they are appropriate and functioning properly. "There are five main objectives in this report that are required by Florida Statute. The most important objective is for us to issue an opinion on the County's financial statements". He then went on to say that "Nassau County has received an "Unmodified Opinion" which is the highest level of assurance that an audit firm can provide on a County's financial statements." He further explained that an unmodified opinion means that there are no modifications needed to the Board's controls and processes. Mr. Tucker also explained the 7 audit reports provided including reports on the Countywide statements, the Board of County Commissioners (stand alone) statements, and the statements on the five individual Constitutional Offices (Sheriff, Clerk of Courts, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser and Supervisor of Elections). Chairman Klynt Farmer stated, "This is a testament to the Clerk's Office and the Office of Management & Budget and a testament of who we are, working for the people we serve. It means a lot to the community". To view the presentation, please click here. This follows the State's annual designation of April as Florida's Water Conservation Month, which is meant to educate citizens about how we can all help save Florida's precious water resources. 2023 is the 25th Anniversary that the State has declared April as Florida's Water Conservation Month! This year, Water Conservation Month centers around water loss from leaky faucets, toilets and irrigation. Douglas Conkey, Intergovernmental Affairs Director for the St. Johns River Water Management District, was in attendance to accept the Resolution. He stated, "Water conservation is the most important action we can take to sustain our water supplies, meet future needs, and reduce demands on Florida's water dependent ecosystems such as springs, rivers, lakes, and wetlands. The average household's leaks account for 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year, the equivalent of the amount of water needed to do 270 loads of laundry. 10% of our homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more of water per day. Repairing simple leaks can save homeowners about 10% on their water bill". The Board of County Commissioners urges to repair leaks and to do their part in saving Florida's water not just in April, but also year-round. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer. 3/21/23 @ 10:30 a.m.- The County's bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. - noon (or until trucks reach capacity... whichever comes first).
