CR 121 Railroad Crossing Closure Update

UPDATE – DATE CHANGE

The previously announced closure of the CR 121 railroad crossing in Hilliard has been postponed due to equipment and logistical considerations related to the emergency track defect repair.

The new closure dates are:
Wednesday, August 26 at 7:00 a.m. through Saturday, August 29 at 7:00 a.m.

The crossing will be fully closed to all traffic while CSX completes the necessary repairs.

Proposed Detour: US 1 → Andrews Road → CR 121

Please note that this information supersedes the dates included in the County's previous notice. Dates and times remain subject to change once work begins.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow the detour and allow additional travel time.

Railroad Crossing Closure in CR 119

Nassau County is sharing the following notice on behalf of CSX regarding upcoming railroad track maintenance at the CR 119 crossing in Bryceville.

CR 119 Railroad Crossing – Bryceville
Tuesday, August 25 at 8:30 a.m. through Thursday, August 27 at 5:00 a.m.
Full closure: No traffic will be permitted across the railroad tracks while work is underway.

This track maintenance is being performed under a contract between CSX and its contractor, Southern Commercial Development. The County Road Department is providing this notice to help residents and motorists plan ahead.

The closure is expected to last approximately 2–5 days, although the schedule may change due to weather or other conditions.

Proposed Detours From Callahan to Bryceville:
US 301 South → Crawford Road West → CR 121 South → CR 119 East

From Bryceville to Callahan:
US 301 South toward Baldwin → US 90 West → CR 121 North → CR 119 East

To Callahan:
CR 119 West → CR 121 North → Crawford Road East → US 301 North

To Bryceville:
CR 119 West → CR 121 South → US 90 East → US 301 North
Please plan ahead and allow additional travel time while the crossing is closed.

Notice of Railroad Crossing Closure: US 17 and CR 108

7/15/26 @ 2:30 p.m.

First Coast Railroad has notified Nassau County of its intent to temporarily close the railroad crossing at County Road 108 and U.S. Highway 17 in Yulee to complete necessary railroad crossing repairs.

Closure Details

Date: Thursday, July 16
Time: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Detour Information

Eastbound CR 108 Traffic:
Travel south on Middle Road, east on Griffin Road to State Road 200, then east to U.S. Highway 17. Continue north on U.S. Highway 17 to County Road 108.

Westbound CR 108 Traffic:
Travel south on U.S. Highway 17 to State Road 200, then west to Griffin Road. Continue north on Middle Road to County Road 108.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and follow all posted detour signs.

Notice of Railroad Crossing Closure

Southern Commercial Development, on behalf of CSX Railroad, has notified Nassau County that the planned track maintenance and associated railroad crossing closure on CR 119, previously scheduled for August 4–6, 2026, has been canceled.
At this time, the maintenance work has not been rescheduled. We will provide an update if and when a new construction schedule is announced.

7/9/26 @ 6:00 a.m.

CSX Railroad has notified Nassau County of a temporary railroad crossing closure on County Road 119 for track maintenance.
Closure Dates & Times:

Begins: Tuesday, August 4, at 7:00 a.m.
Ends: Thursday, August 6, at 8:00 p.m.

The crossing will be completely closed to all traffic during this time. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use the following detours:

Traveling South from Callahan:
US 301 South → Crawford Road West → CR 121 South → CR 119 East

Traveling from Bryceville:
US 301 South toward Baldwin → US 90 West → CR 121 North → CR 119 East

Traveling to Callahan:
CR 119 West → CR 121 North → Crawford Road East → US 301 North

Traveling to Bryceville:
CR 119 West → CR 121 South → US 90 East → US 301 North

Please use caution, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted detour signs.

Railroad Crossing Closure at Pickett Street

Update: The dates on this project have changed. The new dates for the closure are March 1st at 8am to March 5th at 8pm.

2/3/26 @ 7:00 p.m.
The BOCC has received notification of railroad maintenance by CSX that will require a complete closure to the crossing at Pickett Street in Callahan. The closure will take place from Sunday, March 9, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. through approximately 8:00 p.m. On Friday, March 13, 2026. The detour is US 1 to US301 to Picket Street.

As announced on October 27, 2025, CSX Railroad has notified Nassau County of upcoming railroad crossing closures for maintenance and repairs. This is a reminder that work in Nassau County will begin Monday, November 17, 2025.

While a tentative schedule has been provided, please keep in mind that adjustments may occur due to CSX's progress, weather, or other unforeseen factors. The good news is that CSX offers a fully interactive Google map where residents can view each impacted crossing and access daily, real-time updates. Simply click on any icon at any time to see the latest information. This is the quickest and most convenient way to stay informed and plan your travel accordingly.

We understand these temporary closures can be inconvenient, and while CSX and their contractor, Southern Commercial Development, determine the timing and locations of the repairs, the County fully supports their efforts to enhance rail safety and maintain critical infrastructure in our community. CSX and their contractor have been working closely with local law enforcement, emergency services, and the Nassau County School District to help minimize disruptions, maintain safe traffic flow and access for emergency services, and ensure school bus routes continue to operate smoothly.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as this important work takes place. These short-term inconveniences lead to long-term safety and smoother travel for our entire community.

Railroad Crossing Closure Extended

10/10/2025

10/10/25 @ 2:00 p.m.

Nassau County has been notified by CSX that the work on this railroad crossing has been delayed. As a result, the crossing will not reopen today as originally planned. They have extended the closure through October 16, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.

10/3/25 @ 1:00 p.m. - CSX Railroad will be conducting emergency repairs to the railroad crossing on River Road at Brandies Avenue which will require a full closure from 8am on October 6 through 5pm on October 10, 2025. All closures are full and continuous until repairs are complete.

Proposed detour: US 1 to Old Dixie Highway, to Bypass Road, to River Road.

Emergency Work for Railroad Crossing on Ingham Road

Attention Hilliard residents!

CSX Transportation has scheduled an emergency track repair that will require a full closure of the following railroad crossing:

Ingham Rd (off Hwy 301 near Henry Smith Rd)
Closed starting Tuesday, July 15th at 8AM
Reopening estimated by Friday, July 18th at 8AM (weather dependent)

This is a total closure—no traffic will be allowed across the track during this time. Detour signage will be in place. Please plan ahead, use alternate routes, and avoid the area if possible. Stay safe, Hilliard!

Notice of Railroad Crossing Closure

12/18/2023

12/18/23 @ 4:00 p.m. - CSX Transportation has announced a track maintenance project set to being on Monday, January 15, 2024. This project will include the resurfacing of the track bed on part of the CSX Nahunta subdivision.

Below is the message provided by CSX
"This 2-week project begins on 1/15/24 and ends on/around 1/26/24. It impacts the following counties: Bryan County, Liberty County, Long County, and Wayne County, all in GA. It also impacts Nassau County and Duval County, both in FL. These dates are HIGHLY subject to change with or without notice simply due to many unforeseen circumstances that can occur in the field once the work begins. Crossings will be closed anywhere from 2-5 days, depending on the type of maintenance set to receive. However with the one way in/out crossings, we will work as hard as possible to have those accessible within a 24-hour period (or less)."

While there was an extensive list of crossings affected, the only one in Nassau County is on Ratliff Road (shown on the below aerial map). They are estimating the closure to be on or around January 24, 2024.

8/10/23 @ 1:30 p.m. - The County has received notification from CSX Transportation that the railroad crossing on Braddock Road (near Renegade Lane) will be closed from Tuesday, August 15 - Friday, August 18 for emergency repairs. Signage will be placed in the vicinity. Motorists should anticipate extended travel times and delays.
