PRESS RELEASE

COUNTY SEEKS INPUT ON VISION FOR WESTERN NASSAU

The Nassau County Planning and Zoning Board (PZB) has formed a subcommittee, the Western Nassau Heritage Preservation Committee (WNHPC). Five PZB members who reside in Western Nassau, the area of the County west of I-95, serve on the WNHPC. The committee is charged with discussing the future of Western Nassau as it relates to community planning, and to work with the County Planning and Economic Opportunity Department to determine how they can best assist in these proactive planning efforts. The WNHPC anticipates working on this initiative for the next 24 months, with the result being a vision plan and policies for the Board of County Commissioners to consider including in the County Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code. But first they want to hear from you!

Community engagement and outreach are priorities of the Committee, to best understand what the citizens of Western Nassau wish to see for the future. Citizens are encouraged to contact the Planning and Economic Opportunity Department with feedback, as well as participate through surveys and in-person events. The WNHPC will be gathering citizen input throughout the entire process and providing updates as the process moves along. Be a part of the conversation! You can reach the PEO Department at (904) 530-6300 or planninginfo@nassaucountyfl.com

Community members can give immediate feedback through two brief online surveys:

Nassau County Public Works Presented With 2018 Team Project of the Year Award

9/19/2018

Picture
9/19/18 @ 11:55 a.m. - At today's Board of County Commissioner's meeting, several members of Nassau County Public Works were presented with the Florida Association of County and Road Superintendents (FACERS) 2018 Team Project of the Year Award for the Swallowfork Subdivision project.

The award was presented by Rebecca Price, Marketing Manager for England Thims & Miller, on behalf of FACERS. Ms. Price stated " The 100+ home subdivision had been plagued with drainage issues and roads that were in continuous need of maintenance. Road & Bridge employees successfully used existing outfall ditches and adjusted elevation to re-route roadside drainage, regraded ditches to achieve proper flow, and added a double chip seal to 1.3 miles of roadway to improve surface conditions". All work was done in-house by County employees to avoid the large costs associated with hiring outside contractors to design the project and complete construction.

Chairman Pat Edwards thanked the employees for their hard work and the positive impact on the residents of Swallowfork. District Five Commissioner, Justin Taylor, echoed the Chairman's comments. He also added that he personally received calls from several citizens who expressed their gratitude to the County for all the improvements.

Road & Bridge Supervisor, David Hearn, said, "The men here today are just a few of the 40+ employees who worked on this project. I am very proud of the job they have done and appreciate all their hard work".

For additional information about the Swallowfork Project, please see the story we shared here on July 23rd when the County was first notified of the award.
