101 Pets Saved from Nassau County Animal Services

We are happy to report that Nassau County Animal Services participated in a huge adoption event held in Jacksonville this past weekend and 101 pets were adopted and several others were transferred to rescue groups. Congratulations to Nassau County Animal Services for a job well done!

The mega adoption event was organized by PetSmart Charities and First Coast No More Homeless Pets and featured pets from shelters and pet rescue organizations throughout Northeast Florida. A total of 819 pets were saved overall. 

A big thank you to PetSmart Charities and First Coast No More Homeless Pets for organizing this event, as well as to all the employees and volunteers who helped to make this event a great success. Thanks to your efforts, 819 pets have found homes and will now have an opportunity to love and be loved.

Attention Business Owners Who Handle Hazardous Waste

The Northeast Florida Regional Council and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection are providing a FREE workshop on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm regarding how to comply with hazardous waste regulations and used oil storage requirements. The workshop will take place at the Nassau County Emergency Operations Center located at 77150 Citizen's Circle

This workshop will cover topics that apply to most types of businesses that may potentially generate hazardous waste. Learn how to manage your hazardous waste in a cost-effective and legal manner. Common regulated wastes include: use oil and filters, anti-freeze, solvents, rags, paint wastes, lead-acid batteries, dentist amalgams, fluorescent bulbs, and light bulbs containing mercury.

Easter Egg Hunt and Charity Softball Tournament

Please join us this Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Yulee Ballpark for Nassau County Government Day. This exciting event will feature a FREE Easter Egg Hunt with an appearance by the Easter Bunny, Bounce House, Human Hamster Balls, fun photos, and many other activities for the kids. Most food and activities will be "for donation" with all proceeds benefitting four fantastic charities: The Katie Ride, The James Page Scholarship Fund, The United Way, and The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.


There will also be a Charity Softball Game between the Nassau County Tax Collector's Office and Property Appraiser's Office. The game will be hosted by Senator Aaron Bean and there are many other "celebrity" participants in the game including:

  • Umpire: Sheriff Bill Leeper
  • First Baseline Umpire: Commissioner Pat Edwards
  • Third Baseline Umpire: Commissioner Danny Leeper
  • Left Center Field Umpire: Commissioner Barry Holloway
  • Right Center Field Umpire: Commissioner Steve Kelley

  • Commentary: Commissioner Junior Boatright, County Attorney David Hallman, and the Honorable Judge Foster

Notice of Road Closure at CR115 (Kings Ferry Rd) at Cabbage Creek

Please be advised that Kings Ferry Road at Cabbage Creek will be completely closed beginning Monday, April 21, 2014 through Saturday, June 7, 2014 due to replacement of the existing drainage culverts beneath the road. Road Closure on North 11th Street

Please be advised that Florida Public Utilities will be replacing light poles on the portion of North 11th Street between Broome Street and Calhoun Street on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Work will begin at the corner of Broome Street in the morning and will continue to the intersection of Calhoun Street in the afternoon. This segment of the road will be open to local traffic only. Nassau County Emergency Management has scheduled a BRACE for the Storm Workshop for Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 7:00pm-9:00pm. This workshop is open to all Nassau County homeowners and will provide important information on how to prepare for the a possible disaster, as well as tips on how to save money on the windstorm portion of your homeowner's insurance premium.

Please join us for Nassau County Government Day on Saturday, April 19th at 3:00 p.m. This event will benefit 4 amazing charities and will feature an exciting softball tournament between the Property Appraiser's and Tax Collector's Office, special appearances by our Elected Officials, and representatives from various County Departments who will share important information with you about Nassau County Government.

There will also be a lot of free activities for the kids including a Bounce House, Easter Egg Hunt, Fun Photos, and more! What a great way to learn more about your local government and enjoy a beautiful day outside with friends and family. We hope to see you all there!

"Cool to Pool" Initiative from the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization

Now that gas prices averaging nearly $4.00 per gallon, the idea of sharing a ride to work may be appealing to you. The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) has created the "Cool to Pool" Program to encourage carpooling and reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. The program features an online rideshare matching service and provides step by step instructions on establishing your carpool. And if you register with the Cool to Pool rideshare program, you qualify for Emergency Ride Home Program assistance under specific situations. If you have an emergency and need to leave before your carpool, you'll get a free taxi ride to your car or home up to four times a year.

The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization is developing their 2040 Long Range Transportation plan to meet the needs of our diverse and growing region. They are looking to the public for input to determine if the area needs more bikes lanes, sidewalks, roads, or transit options. If you have a preference and would like your opinion to be heard, please attend the North Florida TPO Public Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 5-7pm in the Nassau County Commission Chambers located at 96135 Nassau Place, Yulee, FL.
