On Saturday, June 21st, Yulee Ballpark was filled with energy and excitement as hundreds gathered for the Two All Community Day Event, hosted by the Two All Foundation, the nonprofit organization founded by hometown hero Derrick Henry.

The event featured an array of free, family-friendly activities, including waterslides, obstacle courses, yard games, and more. In a special moment of generosity, 300 lucky attendees received free bikes and backpacks, all donated by the Foundation.

Derrick Henry was present for the entire event, warmly greeting guests, handing out backpacks, and making memories with fans by posing for photos and signing autographs. His kindness and humility left a lasting impression on all who attended.

Nassau County Parks & Recreation was proud to support this incredible community celebration. Special thanks go to the many volunteers who helped make the day a success, and to the Yulee High School Cheerleaders, who brought their Hornet spirit to life for the crowd.

Most of all, thank you to Derrick Henry for continuing to give back and invest in the community that raised him. Your generosity and leadership are truly inspiring.

Be sure to check out this video from the event, created by Nassau County's Multimedia & Communications Manager Omari Matlock.

CPR training is crucial because it equips individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to respond to a cardiac arrest emergency, significantly increasing a person’s chance of survival by maintaining blood flow to the brain and preventing or minimizing brain damage.

This video highlights the outstanding efforts of Hands4Hearts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving community awareness of sudden cardiac arrest through education and support. Hands4Hearts relies on volunteers—many of whom are experienced medical professionals who have witnessed firsthand the impact of sudden cardiac arrest—to help advance its mission.

Hear powerful testimonies from real survivors sharing how CPR saved their lives, along with an inspiring story of a couple whose quick actions saved a woman in a local restaurant. Lastly, retired Critical Care Paramedic Jim Bollenbacher discusses the importance of CPR and how Hands4Hearts is spreading awareness throughout Nassau County through hands-only CPR classes and community education events.

2024 Recap

1/13/25 @ 9:30 a.m.

As we enter into 2025, we wanted to share highlights of some of the great things that happened in 2024. From storm response to road improvements, there was no shortage of things to do! While continuing to focus on the day-to-day activities and the Strategic Priorities identified by the Board of County Commissioners, County staff also worked tirelessly on the Vision 2050 initiative as we collected feedback to help us plan the next 25 years. This was achieved through surveys, interviews and community events where residents were able to participate in hands-on activities to provide feedback of what they want Nassau County's future to look like. The events also focused on local culture and heritage while providing opportunities for community engagement while celebrating the County's 200th birthday. We look forward to presenting the Vision 2050 Plan in the coming months and to another great year of progress in 2025.

Paving the Way to a Better Nassau

7/12/2024

ed/12/24 @ 8:45 a.m. - In September 2020, the County secured RoadBotics, an enterprise firm specializing in road and infrastructure assessments, to conduct an unbiassed survey of all the County's existing 437 miles of paved roads and to provide feedback on current conditions. The information gathered was used to develop a robust, Pavement Management Plan that guides the County in preventative maintenance.

The Board adopted the new Pavement Management Plan on August 22, 2021, utilizing a 22-year cycle for ranking, prioritizing, and budgeting purposes. Prior to adoption of the Pavement Management Plan, roadways could only be resurfaced every 86 years.  However since adoption of the Pavement Management Plan in 2021, 176 roads have been resurfaced.

Upon adoption of the Pavement Management Plan, County Manager Taco Pope stated, "This Plan not only improves quality of life by having the roads resurfaced more frequently, the County benefits from a fiscal sustainability standpoint as well. One of the biggest problems jurisdictions face is the inability to maintain their infrastructure. You all (the Board) should be very proud that you have a proactive approach to pavement management. Nassau County is moving in a very positive direction”.

Below is a short video that explains the process for ranking roads and getting dirt roads prepped and ready for paving. It also includes a testimonial from a resident on Coopers Neck Road explaining how newly chip sealed roads in his neighborhood have positively benefitted the community. Thank you for watching to see all the hard work by men and women of the Road Department and celebrating the progress of the Board of County Commissioner's Pavement Management Plan.
