A the request of The Women's Center of Jacksonville,  the Board of County Commissioners approved a Resolution proclaiming April 2014 as "Sexual Assault Awareness Month" in Nassau County.

Statistics show that one in every five women and one in every seventy-one men will become a victim a sexual violence at some point in their lives. Chances are, you or someone close to you has been a victim so it's important that you know where to find help if needed.

The Women's Health Center of Jacksonville services Nassau, Duval & Baker Counties. Call their crisis hotline at (904) 721-7273 if you ever need talk to someone or get direction on how to press charges. Remember that all calls are confidential and services are available to you at no charge.

Railroad Crossing Closure for Crawford Road

The railroad tracks on Crawford Road will be completely closed from Monday, March 24, 2014 at 7:00 a.m. through Friday, March 28, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. as CSX conducts upgrades to the track. A temporary construction crossing will be open for local traffic only as a detour. The detour will head south on Woods Lane and then proceed east crossing over the existing tracks to Tabby Court. Signs and traffic controls will be posted and CSX flagmen will be at the crossing for assistance. All commercial trucks are prohibited from using the crossing during the closure.

Volunteer Opportunities for County Board & Committees

Do you want to be more involved in the governmental process? If so, we urge you to submit a resume to the County County Manager's Office to be considered for future vacancies on County Boards and/or Committees. Nassau County recognizes that citizen advisory boards and committees are an integral part of the governmental process and those who volunteer are able to provide the Board of County Commissioners with valuable insight.

Please visit our website to see a list of advisory boards, councils, and committees for which the Board of County Commissioners appoint. You will also find useful information regarding the group's purpose, where they meet, member information, etc. If you are interested in serving on a particular board, please submit a letter specifying which Board you are interested in, along with a copy of your most recent resume to Sabrina Robertson at srobertson@nassaucountyfl.com. If a vacancy should occur, your application will be submitted to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration.

Free Prescription Discount Cards Available to Nassau County Residents

Nassau County residents are eligible to receive free Prescription Discount Cards regardless of age, income, or existing health care coverage. This card is available through the County's membership in the National Association of Counties and at no cost to the consumer or taxpayer. There are no enrollment form, no membership fees, and no restrictions or limits on the frequency of use. Anytime you have a prescription that is not covered by insurance, or if you don't have any insurance, simply present the card to the pharmacist to receive a discount. The card can also be used for some pet medications.

You can request a card to be mailed to you by calling toll free 1-877-321-2652 or you can print your own card by visiting http://www.nacorx.org. Cards are also available for pickup at most County Offices including the County Manager's Office, the public libraries, and both Courthouse locations.

Temporary Closure of Lanceford Creek Bridge- Blackrock Road

Please be advised that the Lanceford Creek Bridge (just south of the Lanceford Creek Subdivision) will be closed beginning at 8:00 am on Tuesday, March 25th through 8:00 am on Wednesday, March 26th in order for the contractor to reconstruct the bridge as part of the Blackrock Road Construction Project.

Motorists north of the bridge wishing to access A1A/SR200 will be redirected to Heron Isles Parkway and then south on Chester Road. Motorists wishing to access the area north of the bridge from A1A/SROO will be directed to travel north on Chester Road and then east on Heron Isles Parkway. There will be three message boards placed in the vicinity this week to warn motorists of the upcoming road closure.

The Health Department has released their February Influenza Surveillance Activity Report which includes information about the spread of influenza throughout the State, as well as right here in Nassau County. A copy of the entire report is posted here: Influenza EpiGram February 2014.

Pavement Management Project for Old Nassauville Area

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, Nassau County will begin preventative roadway maintenance on the following roads within the Nassauville area: Pine Breeze Circle, Stratton Road, Admiral Avenue, Barbara's Place, Coconut Cove, Burmeister Road, Catalina Drive, Clearwater Road, Lonnie Crews Road, Santa Juana Road, Schubert Road, Mobley Heights Road, Hendricks Road, Karen Walk, Lil William Road, Lina Road, Linda Hall Road, Louise Court, Crews Road, Springhill Road, Shiloh Place and Gentry Lane. This project is funded by the Nassau County Pavement Management Program.

Access to all roads and driveways will remain open at all times, however motorists should expect some minor delays. Weather permitting, all work should be completed by late March/early April.
