Picture
Starting today, April 15th, 2026, Nassau County has issued a county-wide burn ban. With the recent increase in brush fires and wildfire risks on the rise, we need everyone’s help to keep our community safe.

What’s NOT Allowed:
  • No yard debris burning (vegetation/branches)
  • No bonfires or campfires
  • No outdoor burning unless specifically permitted by the Florida Forest Service.
 What IS Allowed:
  • Gas and charcoal grills are permitted, but they must be monitored at all times.

Stay Vigilant!

In these dry conditions, a tiny spark can lead to a massive emergency.

Please be extra careful with:
  • Cigarettes: Never toss them in the grass or out of car windows
  • Trailer Chains: Ensure they aren't dragging on the road (sparks ignite dry brush fast!)
  • Equipment: Be cautious with hot tools or machinery near dry vegetation.

The ban remains in effect until further notice. Let’s work together to protect our homes, businesses, and neighbors.

To report a violation: Please contact the Sheriff's Office Non-Emergency Line. 904-225-5174, or toll-free 855-725-2632

Nassau County is proud to announce the grand opening of Fire Rescue Station 90 with a Dedication Ceremony scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The new station is located at 3195 County Road 2 in Hilliard and represents a significant investment in public safety for residents in the western part of the county.

Constructed by Acon Construction, this modern, 10,891-square-foot facility is built to support day-to-day operations and emergency response. The station includes 11 sleeping quarters, four and a half bathrooms, a full kitchen, living area, and an exercise room for on-duty personnel. It also features four apparatus bays equipped to house an engine, rescue unit, and tanker, as well as a brush truck to allow crews to quickly respond to wildfires in rural Nassau.

Nassau County Fire Chief Brady Rigdon stated, “This new Fire Station 90 replaces an outdated facility that had faithfully served our community for many years. Our firefighters deserve a safe, modern space that supports their important work, and this station delivers just that. More importantly, it allows us to serve the residents of this area from a much nicer facility with enhanced capabilities. This investment will benefit our community for many years to come.”

Station 90 is one of three fire stations recently completed along with Station 70 on Nassauville Road and Station 10 on Edwards Road.  Together, these new facilities reflect the Board of County Commissioners’ strong commitment to public safety and proactive investment in critical infrastructure. By strategically expanding and modernizing fire rescue resources across the county, the BOCC is ensuring that residents receive faster response times, improved service, and enhanced protection for years to come.

Chair Alyson McCullough stated, “We are incredibly proud of the progress the County has made in enhancing public safety for our residents. Fire Station 90 is a clear example of our commitment to providing first responders with the tools and facilities they need to serve effectively. This investment not only supports our firefighters, but also ensures our community is well-protected now and into the future. It’s also a tangible example of tax dollars at work, thoughtfully used to strengthen services and infrastructure that benefit every resident.”

The public is invited to attend the Dedication Ceremony which will include messages from your Elected Officials, the Fire Chief, a ribbon cutting, and a brief tour of the station. We look forward to seeing you there!

Structure Fire on Amelia Island

2/11/2026

2/11/26 @ 2:30 p.m.

Yesterday, first responders were called to a structure fire on Amelia Island. Crews from the City of Fernandina Beach Fire Department (FBFD) and Nassau County Fire Rescue (NCFR) worked side-by-side to contain the blaze, protect neighboring properties, and keep our community safe.

This incident is a strong reminder of why mutual aid agreements matter. Emergencies don’t recognize jurisdictional lines — and because our agencies train together and support one another, additional personnel, apparatus, and resources can be deployed quickly when they’re needed most. That cooperation ensures a faster, safer, and more effective response for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.

We extend our sincere condolences to the business owners and employees affected by this loss. Our thoughts are with you as you begin the recovery process.

We also want to thank Kellie Boston of Boston Photography Group for respectfully capturing images of the response. Her photos help tell the story of the professionalism, coordination, and dedication shown by our firefighters during a very challenging incident.

We are grateful for the men and women of FBFD and NCFR who put service above self every day.

At the Wednesday, December 17, 2025 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners recognized three firefighters in honor of their upcoming retirements following years of dedicated service to Nassau County Fire Rescue (NCFR).

Matt Waggoner began his career with Nassau County on January 29, 2000, as a Firefighter/Paramedic, providing advanced medical care and emergency fire response to residents throughout the community. On June 16, 2001, he was promoted to the position of Engineer, a role in which he was responsible for driving and operating fire apparatus, managing water pump operations, and ensuring all equipment was prepared and ready for emergency response.

Matt announced his retirement effective January 2, 2026 after 25 years of service. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and by the residents of Nassau County who have benefited from his years of service and commitment to public safety.

In addition to Engineer Waggoner, two other NCFR employees were recognized for their upcoming retirements, though they were unable to attend the meeting: Engineer Bradley Pierson, retiring after more than 25 years of service, and Engineer William Davis, retiring after 21 years of service.
