![]() Four Nassau County Fire Fighters and two Deputies from the Nassau County Sheriff's Office participated in the annual Hazardous Materials Symposium in Daytona Beach January 22-24, 2014. The personnel involved represent initial members of the Nassau County Joint Special Operations Team which will be utilized to respond to incidents requiring Sheriff and Fire Rescue to provide on-the-scene support for handling of dangerous/hazardous materials. The training was paid for by the Local Emergency Planning Committee. (Deputy Daryl Hickox not pictured). -Sabrina Robertson Nassau County Manager's Office ![]() We are pleased to announce that Nassau County Animal Control has obtained a PetSmart Charities Grant in the amount of $200,000 to be used to provide free spay/neutering services for pets and feral cats residing in Nassau County. First Coast No More Homeless Pets was awarded the bid for spay/neutering services and will be providing the services on behalf of the County and at no cost to you. There are no income requirements to qualify. Simply contact First Coast No More Homeless Pets at (904) 425-0005 to schedule an appointment. Free Transportation for your pet is also provided and your pet will be available to pick up and take home on the same day. By participating in this wonderful program, you can help Nassau County Animal Control in it's efforts to control the pet population and to insure that there are no more unwanted pets, thus reducing shelter intake and euthanasia rates. Below is a list of affected railroad crossings, dates under construction, and proposed detours for your information. Nassau County Manager's Office Please be advised that the Blackrock Road Construction Project will begin on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. This project involves widening of the existing road from SR200/A1A to Heron Isles Parkway, reconstruction of the bridge at Lanceford Creek, and installation of a northbound turn lane onto Heron Isles Parkway from Blackrock Road. The work will occur between 9am-4pm on weekdays and most of the work will require lane closures so motorists should expect some delays. There will also be a 30 day closure of the bridge which should occur sometime during the summer. The bridge closure will be advertised and detour signs will be installed at least two weeks before the closure occurs. All work is expected to be completed by the winter of 2014.

The construction is scheduled to begin Saturday, January 18, 2014 and is estimated to be complete by the middle of the following week. A temporary crossing will be established to continue to allow motorists to pass during the construction. Motorists are urged to take extra precautions while traveling in this area.

The Groundbreaking Ceremony is open to everyone so we hope you will join us! -Sabrina Robertson Nassau County Manager's Office Nassau County Fire Rescue Stations 70 and 20, along with the City of Fernandina Beach Fire Department Station 2, responded to a structure fire in a single-wide mobile home located on Midway Road around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. Station 70 transported an injured person to Baptist Medical Center - Nassau with non-life threatening injuries. The fire was extinguished by the remaining units. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
-Sabrina Robertson Nassau County Manager's Office ![]() A team of 16 Nassau County Fire Rescue employees recently completed 160 hours of Hazmat Training. Once they complete and pass the State Certification Exam, they will be able to provide on-the-scene support for handling dangerous materials such as compressed gas, biohazardous waste, toxic chemicals, and flammable materials, to prevent life-threating or ecologically dangerous chemicals from being released into the environment. Nassau County Fire Rescue Engineer Bill Foures is the first member of the class to receive his Hazardous Material Technician Certification. Congratulations Mr. Foures! -Sabrina Robertson Nassau County Manager's Office ![]() Nassau County Fire Rescue has reported that a dump truck is overturned in the east bound lane of SR200 at Arrigo Boulevard. Station 70 responded to the call and has informed us that there are only minor injuries and that no patients had to be transported.
