Welcome to beautiful Nassau County, located in the northeast corner of Florida along the Atlantic Ocean and Interstate 95. We are proud to serve as the Eastern Gateway to the Sunshine State. From our historic island, sandy beaches, and championship golf courses to our scenic rivers, green pastures, and majestic timberlands, we truly offer something for everyone.
12/20/17 @ 4:30 p.m. - The County received notification this morning that Norfolk Southern Railroad will be temporarily closing the crossing on Woods Lane on Thursday, December 21st. The County's Interim Public Works Director, Ms. Becky Bray, has been in contact with Norfolk Southern who has assured her that they have a contingency plan to accommodate emergency service vehicles and buses. They will do their best to accommodate residents in the area as well, however the less traffic, the quicker the repairs can be completed. If you are able to avoid the crossing, please try to do so. Norfolk Southern will have all the work completed tomorrow to minimize disruptions.

Please update this information. Norfolk Southern was unable to complete all of the work on 12/21. Signage at the site indicates the crossing will be closed again 8-5 Wednesday 1/3. At least this time area residents had a couple of weeks' notice via signs over the Christmas holiday, instead of the one-day notice we received from signs for the first closure. Without any available detour, more than a day notice was certainly needed to plan for work, schools, moving appointments, etc.

The County was not notified that the work was not completed, nor have we been notified that there will be another closure this week. Our Public Works Director is reaching out to her contact at Norfolk Southern this morning to get the specifics and we will post an update accordingly. Thank you for letting us know.

Ms. Bray spoke with Norfolk Southern today and was told that the work scheduled for this week is for the crossing at CR 121, not Woods Lane. You are correct that the work to the Woods Lane crossing was not completed on 12/21, however that job has not been rescheduled yet.

Thanks, all we had to go by is their updated signage on Woods Lane (was updated to the 1/3 closing date shortly after their 12/21 work day). So Woods will be open on Wednesday? That's great to know!
