A conference call at 11:00 a.m. this morning determined that Matthew has maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. Even without a direct hit, Nassau County will face strong winds, high surf, beach erosion, and waves of heavy rainfall Wednesday and Thursday. Though the current path is parallel to Florida, there is still a large margin of error. A slight shift westward would increase local impacts. Emergency Management personnel urges everyone to begin preparing now, just in case the storm shifts and we have a more direct hit! For information on how to prepare an emergency plan, please click here. You should also familiarize yourself with the Nassau County Evacuation Zone Map to be aware of which zone you are located in case of an emergency evacuation.
Please visit Nassau County Emergency Management's website often for current updates and to sign up for emergency alerts. If you need to speak with someone at the EOC, please call (904) 548-0900.
