Enhancing Traffic and Pedestrian Safety
Nassau County's Development Services Division (formerly known as Engineering Services) enhances the safety and welfare of the County by providing responsive and effective professional engineering services. An important aspect of our Development Services Division is the oversight and maintenance of 30 traffic lights and 35 flashing beacons by our Traffic Signal Specialist. All of these devices are designed to ensure orderly flow of traffic and safety of vehicle and pedestrians at intersections. Traffic Signal Specialists are on-call 24/7 and often find themselves responding to outages during less than desirable conditions such as rain and thunderstorms, and during the middle of the night.
On an average day, a Traffic Signal Specialist can be found installing and/or troubleshooting data communications equipment and associated infrastructure that forms the Automated Traffic Maintenance System; ensuring that signs, markings and signals are maintained with FDOT's transportation guidelines; maintaining inventory; cleaning red light camera lenses; and troubleshooting and/or replacing defective controllers, and monitors.
We appreciate our Traffic Signal Specialist and commend them for their service and dedication to the County.
