3/14/22 @ 3:30 p.m. - Two Nassau County Public Works employees won in events at the 2022 American Public Works Association (AMPA) of Northeast Florida Equipment Rodeo last week.
The event included seven separate challenges designed to test the speed and safety of equipment operators. Participants included employees from Nassau County, Clay County, St. Johns County, the City of Jacksonville, the City of St. Augustine, the City of Jacksonville Beach and the City of Palm Cost.
Scott Hamilton, Equipment Operator I for the Road Department, won first place in Event 1: Mini Excavator Basketball. The objective of this event was to pick up two balls from the top of street cones and place them in an excavator bucket without dropping the ball or knocking over the cone. Scott completed the challenge in 39 seconds!
Travler Kolletar, Equipment Operator I for the Road Department, placed 2nd in the same even with a time of 51 seconds. Travler also won 3rd place overall after scores were calculated from all 7 events. He has been invited to complete in a regional competition in Tampa, Florida next month. All expenses will be sposored by the APWA.
