5:00 p.m. update from Nassau County Emergency Management:
Tropical Storm Isaias forecasts from the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center have changed very little for Nassau County during most of the day. While the storm has increased in intensity over the last several hours, it remains a tropical storm with sustained winds below 70 mph.Watches and warnings have shifted to our north, focusing on the Carolinas.
Isaias continues its slow northward trek off the Atlantic coast and is forecast to remain offshore during the remainder of Sunday night. Nassau County can expect minimal impact from the storm early Monday morning with storm surge only in the 1 to 3 foot range along the beaches. Rainfall amounts remain in the 1-3 inch range. Winds are expected to be less than Tropical Storm-force as the storm moves northeast off the coast of Nassau County.
Nassau County Emergency Management will continue to monitor the storm overnight. All contingency plans for power outages or neighborhood flooding remain in effect with special needs shelter facilities on standby.
