Paving a road can be very expensive so in an attempt to find an alternative, staff met with a vendor that applies surface treatments to paved and dirt roads. It was determined that the roads in Swallowfork were good candidates for a Double Chip Seal Surface Treatment which consists of an application of heated asphalt liquid followed by a layer of crushed rock applied with a roller to create a smooth surface. Chip seal can be up to 50% cheaper than asphalt and typically lasts about 10 years. Chip seal applications enhance road safety by providing good skid resistance, an anti-glare surface during wet weather, and an increased reflective surface for night driving.
District Five County Commissioner, Justin Taylor, stated, "Since taking office 9 months ago, I have received several calls regarding the terrible road conditions in Swallowfork. This has been an issue for the residents for many years and I'm glad the County has finally been able to provide relief".
