10/29/20 @ 2:45 p.m. - On Wednesday, October 28, 2020, a new ladder truck was delivered to Nassau County Fire Rescue. This truck was purchased through the County's Fleet Replacement Program and will replace the 18 year old ladder truck currently housed at Station 20. Each truck is built to order and as a result, it takes just over a year from purchase date to delivery date.
The new Metro 100 ladder truck boasts an industry-leading 2.5 to 1 safety factor which exceeds the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) 2 to 1 requirement. The compact wheel base is designed to allow the unit to fit between close structures and the ladder reaches up to 100 feet in height. Its modern design and features will increase the department's ability to respond to emergency situations.
The unit was delivered to Nassau County Fire Rescue Headquarters by an employee of the manufacturer. He was joined by his friend, Lucky the Dalmatian. Of course we had to get a picture with Lucky in front of the truck.
