Hurricane Dorian Update 11:31 AM 9/03/2019
Hurricane Dorian remains mostly stalled this morning near the Bahamas, but is expected to begin a slow northern approach along the coastline of Florida. Dorian's impact upon Nassau County could begin as early as late tonight or early morning bringing tropical storm force winds, life-threatening waves and storm surge to Nassau County coastal areas and inlets. The National Weather Service says possible water spouts or even tornadoes may be possible as Dorian approaches Northeast Florida.
A mandatory evacuation remains in effect for zones A, C and F in Nassau County and shelters are open for those with special needs at Hilliard Middle Senior High and the general population at Callahan Middle School.
Nassau County residents are urged to finalize their evacuation plans from the affected zones by this evening prior to a potential curfew in advance of Dorian's storm impact.
A frequent question during mandatory evacuations is when will the ICW bridge close. Officials make that determination based upon WHEN tropical force winds exceed sustained 39 miles per hour at the bridge. Exactly when winds reach that speed is difficult to determine until the storm has begun to impact our area.
