11/8/18 @ 8:15 a.m. The Board of County Commissioners will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony today at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate construction of the new Multi-Use Trail (Amelia River to Sea Trail). The 2.2 mile long multi-use path will run adjacent to Simmons Road beginning on South Fletcher Avenue and extending west to Bailey Road, and continue south to the Ybor Alvarez Softball Complex where the trail will connect with Crane Island and ultimately terminate at the fishing pier on Crane Island.
Project design began in early 2017 and several public outreach events were hosted to allow the community an opportunity to review the plans, provide comments, and ask questions during the design phase.
The contractor is ready to begin construction and both the City and County are very excited to commemorate this event. The completed trail will provide an additional safe route for citizens to walk or bike and we look forward to the project's completion which is anticipated in the 4th quarter of 2019. The City and County have entered into a Interlocal Agreement committing to shared maintenance of the trail upon completion.
