10/17/16 at 9:35 a.m. - FEMA has issued the attached Press Release reminding Florida Residents to be aware of fraudulent scams and price gouging and to report any suspicious activity or potential fraud from criminals who may try to prey on hurricane survivors. They also urge residents to beware of fraudulent contractors, bogus pleas for post-disaster donations, and fake offers of state and federal aid.
Those who question the validity of a contact or suspect fraud are encouraged to call the toll free FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866-720-5721 or the Florida Attorney General's fraud and price gouging hotline at 866-966-7226. Complaints may also be made by contacting local law enforcement agencies.
