9/20/2017

9/20/17 @ 5:45 p.m. - Dumping of debris into County and State right-of-ways is prohibited. Drop-off locations were established to provide citizens residing on private roads with options to dispose of yard debris. There are two locations are both are FREE for Nassau County residents:

  • Bailey Road Maintenance Yard in Fernandina Beach located at 3163 Bailey Road
  • Hilliard Maintenance Yard in Hilliard located at 37356 Pea Farm Road

Both locations are open seven days per week from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. until further notice. Please note that these sites will only accept vegetative debris and will not be able to accept construction/demolition debris.

Last week I read that homeowners on county maintained roads were to start putting debris, separated by type, on the county right of way to be picked up starting this week. After reading this, I am confused. We (& many other families) have ours out by the road. Isn't Eastwood in Hilliard (across from airport-I am aware that side is in the city) county maintained?
Thanks for any clarification you can give.

I'm sorry, we didn't meant to cause confusion. Yes, if you reside on a county maintained road, you were directed to begin placing the debris in the right of way adjacent to your property. We are getting complaints that citizens on private roads or private subdivisions are removing debris from their property and dumping it on other county and state roads (particularly on the island). The piles are becoming so large they are creating safety hazards for motorists. We established drop off locations so that residents residing on private roads would have a place to take their debris. I hope this helps, if not, please let me know.

The News Leader referenced this site to find a schedule and location of when debris would be picked up from the county maintained roads right-of-way, but I do not see such a schedule. Where can that schedule be found?

There is no set “schedule”. Debris pickup began on the island this past Monday and will continue 7 days per week until all picked up. The best advice I can give is for you to be ready now and they will be there as soon as they can. Below is a link where you can find info about how to sort the debris and drop off locations if you chose to take it in lieu of waiting for the contractor. I hope this helps. Have a good evening.

There are 2 large trees in the right-of-way off Page's Dairy Road just west of the creek access that are leaning on another tree and my come down onto the road/car at any moment. Is this the place to report that?

Good Morning,
I have reported the issue to our Road & Bridge Dept. and will report their findings here.
Thanks for notifying us.

My next door neighbor on the east side of my house dumped all her debris (including smaller raked leaves and such) onto my already cleaned property, much of it into the county-maintained drainage ditch. Will the stuff in the drainage ditch be picked up as well? Right now, it's causing standing water and increasing mosquitoes. I asked her to move the pile, but she didn't want it to mess up her yard.

The truck will pickup anything they can reach with the claw. IF there's anything left behind after they do their second pass, we can ask the Road Dept. to come and clean it out.
