County Residents Urged to Take Advantage of Free Prescription Discount Cards

In May of 2008, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners launched the Prescription Discount Program to help citizens cope with the high prices of prescription drugs.  Since then, 25,651 citizens have used the prescription discount card and have saved a total of $809,734, with the average savings per prescription filled being $11.68. The Prescription Discount Program is sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo). As a member of NACo, there is no charge to Nassau County to offer this program to its residents. The prescription discount cards can be used by all County residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage, and it’s accepted at 14 pharmacies in the county. There is no enrollment form to receive the card, no membership fee, and no restrictions or limits on the frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card at any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance. Simply present the card to the participating pharmacy to receive your discount. The card can also be used on some pet medications.

Cards are available for pick up at various locations throughout the county including the Historic Courthouse, Judicial Annex, County Manager’s Office, and Library branches.
