5/30/23 @ 3:30 p.m. - The next movie to be featured in our Summer Movie Series is "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", an 80's comedy about a quirky teenager who is determined to take a day off from school regardless of what his Principal thinks. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs just under 1 hour and 45 minutes. You can enjoy the movie from your car using a designated radio station or you can bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the movie in front of our giant movie screen. DOH- NASSAU PROMOTES WATER SAFETY MONTH Contact: Jennifer Bothast Jennifer.Bothast@flhealth.gov 904-832-2644 Nassau, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Nassau (DOH-NASSAU) encourages communities to participate in National Water Safety Month in May. Take precautions to prevent drownings. With pools, lakes, and other surrounding bodies of water in Florida, water safety is critical to prevent drownings. Children ages 1-4 years are more likely to drown in a home swimming pool than children ages 5-19 years, who are more likely to drown in natural bodies of water. Whether you are a parent or a community group member, everyone plays a role in drowning prevention. The goal is to keep water activities fun and safe for all as we move into the summer months. The event began with a welcome message by Parks & Recreation Director, Jay Robertson. Mr. Robertson expressed the County's excitement about the new dog park, and also spent a few minutes talking about the progress of Nassau Crossing Park, as well as future amenities that will be added including the soccer field, nature outlook, and splash park. Commissioner Klynt Farmer followed Mr. Robertson with another quick welcome message to those in attendance. Animal Control Officer (ACO), Marty Pruitt, spoke about pet safety and provided an overview of the park rules. He also distributed the attached pamphlet that provides insight on the activities of Animal Services including the role of an ACO, their training, and information about the shelter including volunteer opportunities and visiting hours. Following the welcome messages, the Commissioners performed a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Then, all the dogs and their handlers were invited inside the park. The pets explored the obstacles and had fun playing chase while dog themed music played nearby. Dogs were also greeted by staff with complimentary treats. It was a great event and every dog in attendance was happy and well behaved! The park is now open for residents to use at their leisure. The new dog park will feature nine obstacles for dogs of all sizes and abilities; a doggy themed water fountain to keep the pups hydrated; a misting fire hydrant to keep them cool; leash posts; dog waste stations; and doggy themed benches and trashcans throughout.

While the upcoming time change prevents us from having a double feature event this summer, Nassau County Parks & Recreation is planning a summer movie series so please stay tuned for details. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer 2/21/23 @ 4:45 p.m. Nassau County Parks and Recreation would like to invite you to travel back in time for an 80’s Night Double Feature Movie Event on Friday, March 10th at Peters Point Beachfront Park (located at 4600 Peters Point Road). The event will open at 6:00 p.m. There will be an 80’s Movie Costume Contest at 6:30 p.m. with prizes for 1st – 3rd place. Sign ups are not necessary for the costume contest. Then, there will be a showing of “The Goonies” beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by a showing of “Dirty Dancing” beginning at 9:00 p.m. Either relax in your vehicle and listen through a select FM station or bring a chair/blanket and enjoy not one, but two 80’s classics.
