Christmas Tree Lighting Schedule of Events

We are just a little more than 2 weeks away from our 2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Join us for a night of fun including live music from the Nassau Community Band, games, vendors, food trucks, and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. This event will feature, food trucks, games, live music by the Nassau Community Band, and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Below is the schedule for the event:

5:00 p.m. Event Opens With:
-- Trackless Train Rides (free)
-- Family photos in inflatable snow globe (free-on your own)
-- Kids Christmas themed games (free)
-- Face painting ($)
-- Arts and crafts vendors ($)
-- Food trucks ($)

5:30 p.m. - Nassau Community Band Performance

6:20 p.m. - Royal Amelia Dance Academy Performs

6:35 p.m. - Santa arrives

6:45 p.m. - Tree Lighting

6:50-7:30 p.m. - Pictures with Santa (free - on your own)

8:00 p.m. - Event closes

Veterans Day Parade

Light Up Yulee Decorating Contest

11/10/23 @ 11:00 a.m.

The Community Stewards of Yulee, Inc. is a local non-profit organization who serves the Yulee community by hosting charity events and promoting community engagement. This year, they are hosting a holiday light decorating contest, "Light Up Yulee With Christmas Spirit" and are encouraging businesses along US Highway 17 and State Road 200 in Nassau County to decorate their storefronts. Upload a photo to the organization's FaceBook page anytime between November 24 and December 25, 2023, and the community will vote on their favorite. The winner will be announced in January 2024.

North Florida TPO Long-Range Plan Update

The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is the independent regional transportation planning agency for Duval, Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns counties, leading the region's efforts in planning, funding and mobilizing resources to develop and maintain or transportation system. At this time, the North Florida TPO is developing its long-range transportation plan 2050 Path Forward and needs to hear from citizens in Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties via an electronic survey at www.2050pathforward.com.

Transportation improvements are needed to keep our economy moving and our region growing. How should we invest transportation dollars for the future? Do citizens want more roads, transit, bicycle and/or pedestrian facilities, freight, safety or technology projects? The survey takes five minutes to complete and closes Nov. 20. We need your voice in this planning process.

Tire Recycling Event Successful

11/9/23 @ 2:40 p.m. - A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Waste Tire Amnesty Day event last November 4, 2023. We are excited to announce that 855 tires were collected and will be recycled. Below is a chart depicting participation by zip code.

We look forward to bringing you another Waste Tire Amnesty Day in the spring of 2024.

Don't forget that each household can dispose of up to 4 tires per year at no charge at the Convenience Recycle Center located at 46026 Landfill Road in Callahan. So, you don't have to wait until the next Waste Tire Amnesty Day to dispose of tires properly. Thank you for helping us keep these toxic items out of the environment.

Evans Rendezvous Planning Meetings

11/9/2023

11/9/23 @ 4:00 p.m. - On Saturday, November 4, 2023, the County hosted a community meeting to discuss the potential use of the Evans' Rendezvous, a historical structure that served as a restaurant and entertainment venue in the American Beach Community. Several dozen residents were in attendance and shared ideas on what they envision for the site's future.

The site was acquired by the County through a Florida Community Trust Grant in 2004 and consists of the lot containing the Evans's Rendezvous structure, two lots to the south, and three lots across the street. At this time, the County is working with a consultant to explore options for future use.

According to Principal Adrienne Burke of Community Planning Collaborative, planning efforts will include a focus on preservation, protection of the nearby dunes and vegetation, and rehabilitation of the structure, all while maintaining the unique and historic character of the community.

Seeking Volunteer for At-Large Planning & Zoning Board Member

Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to submit resumes for this vacancy is Friday, November 10th.

Original Post:
In June 2023, the Board of County Commissioners approved Ordinance No. 2023-013 amending Section 3.04 of the Land Development Code that established the Planning & Zoning Board (PZB). This update reduced the amount of at-large members on the PZB from five to one. The existing at-large member appointments will expire on December 31, 2023.

At this time, the Board is seeking a volunteer to fill the single at-large position for a 3-year term beginning January 1, 2024.

The Planning & Zoning Board reviews all requests for rezoning of property, zoning amendments, Comprehensive Plan text amendments, Land Use Map amendments, and amendments to Ordinances that affect the use and development of land. The Board submits written recommendations on these matters and submits them to the Board of County Commissioners for a final determination. The Board also hears appeals where it is alleged that there is an error in a decision made by the Planning Director or staff, as it relates to Zoning Codes or the Comprehensive Plan. The Board also comments on preliminary site plans and serves as the Local Planning Agency for Nassau County.

Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month beginning at 6:00 p.m. Members serve three (3) year terms and are required to file a financial disclosure. Board members are provided a stipend of $75 per meeting and are reimbursed for mileage at rates set by the Federal General Services Administration.

To be considered, you must be a full-time Nassau County resident as verified by a valid homestead exemption which must be maintained throughout your term.

Halloween Festival a Success

11/2/23 @ 1:15 p.m. - Several thousand people attended the 3rd Annual Halloween Festival last Friday, October 27th. Guests enjoyed trick-or-treating, games, hayrides, food, music and more! We appreciate all the individuals, businesses and County departments who participated in our trick-or-treat alley to distribute candy to the kids. We also greatly appreciate our volunteers and personnel from the Facilities and Parks & Recreation Departments who worked tirelessly setting up for the event. And last but not least, thank you to all the residents who came out to celebrate with us. We hope that you all had a wonderful time!

2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

11/2/23 @ 9:30 a.m. - Nassau County Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 1st in front of the Robert M. Foster Justice Center located at 76347 Veterans Way, Yulee.

The event will start at 5pm with with vendors, food trucks, games, live music by the Nassau Community Band, and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The tree lighting will take place at 6:15 p.m.
