National Small Business Week

4/30/24 @ 3:30 p.m. - ​Happy National Small Business Week from the Board of County Commissioners and the Nassau Prosperity Alliance!

For more than 60 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has celebrated Small Business Week to acknowledge the contributions of America's entreprenuers and small business owners. This year, National Small Business Week takes place from April 28 - May 4, 2024. Nassau County has a plethora of small businesses serving our community and supporting the local economy. From restaurants to small shops, each small business creates jobs, drives innovation, and boosts our economic health. This week we celebrate all Small Businesses in Nassau County. However we also want to express our appreciation to two organizations in Nassau County that provide support to small businesses and business leaders in our community.

The Small Business Development Center supports potential business owners by helping them get their businesses up and running. Examples include sharing ideas, assessing your skills and expertise, conducting market research and writing a business plan. Jodi Henson, Assistant Director for the SBDC in Nassau County, stated, "This week we are celebrating National Small Business Week, and Nassau County is the picture-perfect example of the power and importance small businesses play in our community. Over 99% of the businesses in our county meet the definition of a small business, and their impact to our lives is mighty.  At the SBDC, we see the hard work, sweat, and tears every day of businesses working tirelessly to provide their products and services that make our lives better.  Our mission at the SBDC is to help small businesses thrive and we stand ready to support the thousands of Nassau County businesses every day!  Please remember to support your local small business.  And if you need assistance with your small business, please reach out to the FL SBDC.  We are here to help."

Another very important resource for small businesses is the Nassau County Chamber of Commerce. This member-based organization supports businesses by providing strategies and resources for growing your business and making it thrive. Chamber President Regina Duncan stated, "Small businesses are the heartbeat of Nassau County. With nearly half of our workforce employed by businesses with less than 100 employees, they are not just contributors but the very essence of our community's originality and spirit. At the Chamber of Commerce, we are grateful for the opportunity to witness a variety of unique ideas, programs, services, and products which emerge from our own backyard. Our commitment to their success is unwavering, and by supporting our small businesses, we not only foster economic growth but also celebrate the richness of our local talent and creativity."

Residents can support Small Businesses by shopping and dining local not just this week, but year-round.
