The bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event has been scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 8am-noon (or until trucks reach capacity- whichever comes first). Hosted by Keep Nassau Beautiful and Nassau County's Solid Waste Division, this event allows Nassau County residents to safely dispose of items that are too hazardous for the landfill. Examples includes electronics, aerosols, herbicides/pesticides, fluorescent lightbulbs, batteries, paint/paint thinners, oil filters, and more.
The event will take place at the Nassau County Road Department located at 86200 Gene Lasserre Blvd., Yulee. Motorists will enter the facility through Courtney Isles Way.

This event is FREE for Nassau County residents with proof of residency.

No commercial loads will be accepted, however small businesses can call ahead for pricing at 352-334-0440.

Last but not least, residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Barnabas Food Pantry.

​Recycling right in Nassau County is easy when you know what can (and can’t) go in the bins at the drop-off sites.

Glass, plastics (#1 and #2), cans, paper, and flattened cardboard can be recycled at all locations. Additional items are accepted at the Convenience Recycling Center (limit 2 loads/week).

Residents can drop off recyclables at any County-operated drop-off site—free of charge.

​Recycling is one of the simplest and most impactful ways to care for our community and environment—but only when done right. In Nassau County, proper recycling ensures materials are actually processed and kept out of landfills, rather than ending up as contamination.
 
The Nassau County Solid Waste Department is making recycling easier with enhancements at County recycling sites and a new downloadable Recycling Guide. Here’s how to recycle confidently and effectively in Nassau County:

Know Where to Go
Nassau County operates the Convenience Recycling Center (Callahan), the Gene Lasserre (Yulee), and the Bryceville drop-off sites. These locations now feature clear signage and bin decals to show exactly what is accepted—and what isn’t.

All County-operated recycling locations are free for residents, who are asked to recycle no more than two loads per week. Visit https://nassaufl.co/recycling for more details.

Know What to Throw
All sites accept glass, #1 and #2 plastics, cans, paper, and flattened cardboard. The Convenience Recycling Center also accepts furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, scrap metal, and more. Download the Residential Recycling Guide for the full list.

No Plastic Bags
Keep recyclables loose. Plastic bags tangle sorting equipment, damage machinery, and slow down processing. Collect recyclables at home, then place them unbagged into County bins.

Keep Recyclables Clean, Loose, and Dry
Rinse cans, bottles, and jars. Pizza boxes with food or excess grease aren’t recyclable. Keep paper and cardboard dry to prevent mold and brittleness, which reduce their recyclability.

Empty and Flatten Boxes
Remove plastic film, Styrofoam, and packing materials before recycling boxes. Flatten all boxboard (e.g. cereal boxes) and corrugated cardboard (e.g. shipping boxes).

Don’t Wishcycle
Wishcycling—putting items in the bin and hoping they’re recyclable—contaminates recycling streams. Common non-recyclable items include light bulbs, take-out containers and cups, plastic cutlery, and straws. These items clog machinery and can render batches unusable.

5/20/25 @ 5:00 p.m. - On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Nassau County Solid Waste hosted its Bi-Annual Waste Tire Amnesty Day Event. This event allows Nassau County residents to dispose of up to 15 car or truck tires at no cost. During the four hour event, a total of 401 tires were collected. 

Thank you to the hardworking employees of Solid Waste for coordinating another successful recycling event.  A big thank you as well to the residents who participated to ensure that tires are disposed of properly. Nassau County Solid Waste looks forward to bringing its next Waste Tire Amnesty Day in the Fall of 2025. 

Missed the event? No problem! Each household is allowed to dispose of up to 4 car/truck tires per year at no-cost. Proof of residency is required. The Convenience Recycle Center is located at 46026 Landfill Road. For hours of operation, please click here.

4/30/25 @ 1:30 p.m. - On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Nassau County Public Works and Keep Nassau Beautiful partnered to offer the bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event. This event is aimed at keeping harmful items out of the landfill and is free for Nassau County residents. 

Once again, the community showed great support of this endeavor with a whopping 449 vehicles coming through during the 4-hour event.  While the exact tonnage collected is not yet known, it is safe to stay that many Nassau County residents are doing their part to ensure electronics, paint, aerosols, batteries, used oils, lubricants, fluorescent light bulbs and other hazardous items are recycled properly.

We are also excited to announce that 700 lbs of food was collected for the Barnabas Food Pantry and will be used to feed hungry families right here in our community! 

We greatly appreciate the Nassau County Public Works team and the Keep Nassau Beautiful volunteers for all their hard work in coordinating the event and serving residents quickly and efficiently. Your hard work, speed and professionalism did not go unnoticed. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the residents who helped make this a successful event and for doing what you can to keep Nassau County clean and safe.

Happy Earth Day!

Today, we would like to highlight Nassau County's recycling program. Recycling helps conserve natural resources, reduces the need for landfill space, and minimizes the environmental impact from producing new products.

Nassau County Solid Waste provides a Convenience Recycle Center for the collection and disposal of solid waste and recyclables for its residents. Located on Landfill Road in Callahan, this site accepts a variety of recyclable materials including cardboard, glass (clear, brown and green), aluminum, plastics (1 and 2), paper, electronics, appliances, paint and used cooking oil.

We also offer two additional recycling sites: 72823 Motes Road in Bryceville and 86200 Gene Lasserre Blvd. in Yulee. These two sites accept paper, glass (clear, brown and green); plastics (1 and 2), aluminum and cardboard.

11/13/24 @ 11:00 a.m. - On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Nassau County Public Works hosted the Waste Tire Amnesty Day Event. This event allows Nassau County residents to dispose of up to 15 car or light truck tires for recycling. A total of 627 tires were collected during the three and a half hour event. All tires will be taken to Global Tire Recycling in Wildwood Florida.

We appreciate Nassau County Public Works for all their hard work in coordinating and working during the event. We also appreciate our residents who took advantage of this opportunity to ensure waste tires are disposed of properly. As a reminder, each household is allowed to bring up to four (4) tires to the Convenience Recycle Center per year at no-cost (proof of residency is required) so even if you missed this event, you still have a way to dispose of them properly. Thank you for ensuring that waste tires do not end up in our waterways or rights-of-ways.

10/25/24 @ 10:00 a.m. - On Saturday, October 19, 2024, Nassau County Public Works and Keep Nassau Beautiful hosted the bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event. A total of 455 vehicles came through during the 4-hour event disposing of hazardous items such as electronics, paint, aerosols, batteries, used oils and lubricants, and more. 

Thank you to each and every resident that attended and did their part to ensure that harmful items are kept out of the landfill. And thank you to the employees of Nassau County Public Works and the volunteers at Keep Nassau Beautiful for coordinating the event and volunteering their time cleaning out vehicles for residents, sorting materials, and placing them in the proper trucks for disposal. We also want to send a special thank you to the hardworking men and women at Nassau County Fire Rescue Station 71 (Chester Road) and Commissioner Hupp Huppmann for spending their morning helping as well. It was a beautiful day serving the community and we appreciate all the extra help.

4/25/24 @ 9:00 a.m. - On Satuday, April 20, 2024, Nassau County Solid Waste and Keep Nassau Beautiful hosted the bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event. Nearly 500 cars came through during the 4-hour event, disposing of waste that is too hazardous for the landfill including 100 gallons of cooking oil, 80 propane tanks and a 30 yard dumpster full of paint! Other items collected included electronics, power tools, fluorescent lightbulbs, pesticides, and more. 

Thank you Nassau County residents for doing your part in caring for our environment and ensuring that hazardous waste items are disposed of properly. We also appreciate the hard work of County staff, Keep Nassau Beautiful volunteers, and the agencies involved with making this event a huge success. The next Hazardous Waste Recycling Event will be held in the Fall of 2024.
