10/20/22 @ 1:35 p.m. - On Saturday, October 15th, Nassau County Solid Waste and Keep Nassau Beautiful hosted the bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event. A total of 304 cars came through during the 4 hour event. 63% of the participants came from Fernandina Beach; 28% from Yulee; 4% from Callahan; 3% from Hilliard; and 2% were from Bryceville.

County employees from the Nassau County Solid Waste and Nassau County Road Department, along with 15 volunteers from Keep Nassau Beautiful, processed cars at a rate of 52 seconds per vehicle (once inside the gate). Great job to everyone involved! And a big thank you to the residents who ensured that harmful items were properly recycled, as well as to those who brought a non-perishable item to be donated to Barnabas. Thanks to you, just over 500 pounds of food was collected for the Barnabas Food Pantry and will benefit families right here in Nassau County.

10/17/22 @ 12:00 p.m.

Please join us in wishing Thomas Ford a very happy birthday! Mr. Ford is currently serving as the County Commissioner for District 4. He is a life-long resident of Nassau County and grew up on a farm in Bryceville. His time on the farm has given him a passion for agriculture.

That passion led Thomas to serving on the Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Committee and as a district representative on the Farm Bureau State Board of Directors. Thomas has also served on the Nassau County Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee, the Nassau County Soil & Water Conservation Board and on the Nassau County Code Enforcement Board.

When Thomas is not working, he can be found spending time with his wife, Dana, and their three children, Forrest, Megan and Walker. Together they enjoy swimming in the pool or hanging out by a fire.

Efforts to Bring High-Speed Internet/Broadband Services to Unserved and Underserved Areas of County

10/16/2022

10/16/22 @ 2:10 p.m. - The Board of County Commissioners is working with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) to determine gaps in high-speed internet service to both unserved and underserved areas of Nassau County. This will assist the Board in their efforts to make high-speed internet/broadband services available to everyone in the County.

The DEO has created a Broadband Availability Map and speed test to identify broadband internet service throughout the State. Residents are urged to take this speed test to help further develop the Broadband Availability Map, which in turn will help Nassau County and the DEO identify gaps in high-speed internet service.

As part of DEO’s efforts to encourage public participation collaboration and ensure a high level of transparency, the Florida Broadband Availability Map will be continuously updated on the webpage. Please note that the map is not complete and will continue to be updated as more data is added and changes in broadband availability are identified.

To learn more and take the speed test today, click the link below.

Collection of Supplies for Hurricane Victims

10/14/22 @ 3:30 p.m. - We would like to take a moment to extend our gratitude to Nassau County residents! On October 4th, we sent out messages that the Nassau County County Extension Office had partnered with the Alachua and Marion County Extension Offices to gather hurricane supplies for those affected by Hurricane Ian. Even though it was a really quick turn around with only 3 days to collect supplies, the community exceeded our expectations and donated enough supplies to completely fill two passenger vans! It's so wonderful to live in a kind and caring community and we have no doubt that these donations will be greatly appreciated by those impacted by the storm. Great job Nassau County!

Peanut Butter Challenge

10/9/2022

10/9/22 @ 12:45 p.m.- Please see the below message from the Nassau County Extension Office.

It’s that time of year-the peanut butter challenge!

Each October, extension offices across the state try to outcompete one another to collect the most jars of Peanut Butter. Each year the challenge gets better. The challenge gets bigger. The competition gets fiercer. The challenge gets nuttier.  This year we’re very excited that Florida A&M is joining in on the peanut butter challenge too!

What is the peanut butter challenge? The peanut butter challenge is a truly wonderful way for Floridians to celebrate Florida’s peanut agriculture industry and to help combat local hunger.  Each participating extension office collects unopened jars of peanut butter (or similar) through the month of October. Whichever county collects the most jars wins! All donated jars go to local food banks and charities to distribute to high-need community members.

How to Donate
