4/7/17 @ 10:50 a.m. - At this morning's Special Meeting, the Board approved the attached Resolution extending the Burn Ban through Friday, April 14th. Assistant Chief Scott Hemmingway was in attendance and notified the Board that the Florida Forest Service stated that despite having received rain this week, the burn threat is the same as it was the day the fire began in Bryceville two weeks ago. They also indicated that we would need several days of rain to bring burn index back down to a low threat level.
Pursuant to Florida Statute, Section 252.38(3)(5), Burn Bans can only be declared locally for seven (7) days and may be extended, as necessary, in seven (7) day increments. Since County offices are closed next Friday in observance of Good Friday, a Special Meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, April 13th at 9:00 a.m. for the Board to consider another extension to the Burn Ban, if needed. The current Burn Ban prohibits burning of yard debris and trash. It does not pertain to cooking on attended and monitored barbeque equipment or to permits issued by the Division of Forestry. If you have any questions, please contact Fire Rescue Headquarters at (904) 530-6300. If you need to report someone burning yard debris, please call 9-1-1. -Sabrina Robertson County Manager's Office Don't forget, this Saturday April 8th is Waste Tire Amnesty Day and Nassau County residents can bring up to 15 tires to the landfill for FREE DISPOSAL with proof of residency.
