A special thank you to Keep Nassau Beautiful, all site coordinators, community partners, and the many dedicated volunteers who participated in the 2026 St. Marys River Cleanup on April 18. Their collective efforts helped remove a significant amount of litter and debris from waterways, parks, boat ramps, roadways, marsh areas, and shorelines throughout Nassau County.
Cleanup efforts took place at nine locations across the county, including Kings Ferry Boat Ramp, Edwards Boat Ramp, Dee Dee Bartels Boat Ramp, Creekside Drive, Shave Bridge West/Wade’s Place, Bill Melton Boat Ramp Park, Lofton Creek Paddle area, Goffinsville Park, Holly Point Boat Ramp, and the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch. Volunteers worked both on land and on the water to help protect the St. Marys River and surrounding natural habitats.
Volunteers made a tremendous impact across all cleanup locations throughout Nassau County. Teams removed litter and bulk debris from boat ramps, shorelines, marsh areas, roadways, parks, and waterways along the St. Marys River corridor. Notable efforts included volunteers working by land and water at Bill Melton Boat Ramp Park and Lofton Creek, cleanup teams tackling heavily littered areas near Creekside Drive and Shave Bridge, and community groups including Eight Flags Jeep Club, Lowe’s, Paddle Jax Amelia, and Sheriff’s Youth Ranch staff helping restore several key public access areas. The cleanup effort resulted in dozens of bags of litter and large debris items being removed from the environment, helping protect local wildlife and waterways.
As part of Nassau County’s continued partnership with Keep Nassau Beautiful, County staff will coordinate the removal and proper disposal of all collected debris left at designated pickup locations following the event.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who volunteered their time and energy to help preserve Nassau County’s waterways and natural beauty for future generations. Your hard work continues to make a lasting difference throughout our community.
