While it will be several weeks before we know the exact tonnage of each item delivered, it's safe to say that the event was very successful. Over four hours, a total of 352 vehicles delivered items to be recycled. Residents pulled into the facility and were greeted by one of many County employees and/or Keep Nassau Beautiful volunteers who emptied their cars for them at a rate of about 43 seconds per vehicle.
Below is a pie chart showing the breakdown of participants by zip code.
Most of the items recycled included paints and electronics. Just a friendly reminder that Nassau County residents can dispose of paint and electronics year-round at no charge at the Convenience and Recycle Center located at 46026 Landfill Road, Callahan. Therefore, you don't have to wait for a recycling event to safely dispose of these items.
If you have any questions about recycling, please reach out to Nassau County Solid Waste at (904) 530-6700.
