Commissioner Klynt Farmer; Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper; and City of Fernandina Beach Chief of Police Jeffrey Tambasco During Monday night's meeting, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners recognized National Police Week and Peace Officer Memorial Day through an official Proclamation honoring the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across our nation and here at home. Sheriff Bill Leeper attended on behalf of the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, along with Chief of Police Jeffrey Tambasco representing the Fernandina Beach Police Department.
Today, on Peace Officer Memorial Day, we remember the more than 24,000 law enforcement officers nationwide who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1786, including thirteen fallen officers from Nassau County. Those heroes include eight members of the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, one officer from the Fernandina Beach Police Department, one Florida Highway Patrol officer, two officers from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Law Enforcement division, and one Hilliard Constable.
As we honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we also extend our sincere appreciation to the men and women who continue to serve and protect our community every day. The BOCC encourages residents to take a moment this week to thank a law enforcement officer for their commitment, bravery, and service to Nassau County.
