In January 2022, County Manager Taco Pope instituted Customer Care Standards to guide both internal and external interactions and foster a more positive workplace culture. A key component of this initiative is the Employee Recognition Program, which allows staff to nominate co-workers who exemplify Nassau County’s Customer Care Standards and/or demonstrate exceptional performance beyond their regular duties and responsibilities.
At the Wednesday, February 18, 2026 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) recognized the newest Employees of the Quarter. Both honorees were nominated for their outstanding service at Nassau County Animal Services (NCAS).
Operations Manager Amy Bell, who works within the County Manager’s Office, spent seven months in 2025 serving as Interim Director at NCAS. Director of Strategic Advancement Brandy Carvalho stated, "Amy stepped in and helped one of our most critical departments elevate and transition, and brought the knowledge and capabilities that only Amy has. She led the team with professionalism and compassion. I'm very proud to work with Amy and am grateful for her work."
Ms. Bell then introduced Animal Control Officer Crystal Raulerson as the second Employee of the Quarter. She first acknowledged the many dedicated employees at NCAS, noting that Crystal particularly stood out. “She is the kind of person that can do anything she puts her mind to, stated Ms. Bell. She has the work ethic and drive that you can't teach, it's innate in her. She works adoption events, teaches middle school students at career day, and she's professional in trying situations. The qualities that Crystal displays embodies the Customer Care Standards and I believe she is very deserving of this award."
The Board of County Commissioners congratulates both recipients and expresses sincere appreciation for their dedication to public service.
