The Conservation Lands Acquisition and Management (CLAM) Program was established in 2021 through Ordinance No. 2021- 02 and updated by Ordinance No. 2025-013 to provide a strategic, science-based, and community-informed framework for identifying and acquiring environmentally sensitive lands in Nassau County. The CLAM Program serves to protect water quality, wildlife habitat, and natural resources, while also supporting outdoor recreation and quality of life for present and future generations.
As part of this initiative, the Board of County Commissioners created the CLAM Committee, an advisory board charged with evaluating nominated properties and making recommendations to the Board regarding conservation priorities, acquisition strategies, and management plans.
The County is currently seeking resumes for individual interested in serving on the CLAM Committee to file one vacancy. Pursuant to Section 35-11 of the Nassau County Code of Ordinances, the CLAM Committee is composed of five (5) regular voting members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
Committee members must possess skills, expertise, and/or demonstrable experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Natural resource management and biology;
- Agriculture and forestry;
- Community planning;
- Environmental engineering or civil engineering related to stormwater or green infrastructure projects;
- Environmental regulations, land use law, or commercial real estate.
While members are not required to reside in Nassau County, geographic diversity is encouraged. Members serve four-year terms and are subject to ethics requirements under Florida law, including annual Form 1 financial disclosure filings. The CLAM Committee meets at least six times annually and plays a vital role in ensuring the transparency and integrity of the conservation land acquisition process.
