​Thank you to everyone who participated in the Nassau County Fact-Finding Committee meetings held on June 29 and June 30.

During the June 29 meeting, the Committee presented the initial draft of the Data Center Definitions, Goals, and Regulatory Oversight Table, an important milestone in the County's ongoing review of data center development. The draft document is now available on the County's Data Center Fact-Finding webpage, and residents are encouraged to review it and submit comments through July 30th.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Evan Rosenthal of Nabors, Giblin & Nickerson, P.A. for serving as the guest presenter during the June 30 meeting and sharing his expertise.

As this phase of the fact-finding process concludes, the Board of County Commissioners extends its heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of individuals who have contributed along the way, including residents who attended meetings in person, those who watched online, the subject matter experts who shared presentations and testimony, individuals who submitted comments and written testimony, and the dedicated members of the Nassau County Fact-Finding Committee. Your time, knowledge, and engagement have been instrumental in helping the County better understand the many facets of data center development.

The work is not over. The Committee will continue refining its goals, drafting objectives and strategies, conducting upcoming site visits, and preparing a draft report for the Board of County Commissioners. An overview of these next steps can be found in the June 30 presentation materials, available on the County's Data Center Fact-Finding webpage.

There will continue to be numerous opportunities for public involvement before the Committee's draft recommendations are presented to the BOCC. Following that, the Board will also provide opportunities for community input through public hearings before considering any future policy or regulatory changes.

Residents are encouraged to continue reviewing meeting materials, watching videos, and submitting comments through August 1. Please continue to follow the County's official Data Center Fact-Finding webpage for the latest updates, upcoming meetings, new materials, and opportunities to participate.

Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s Nassau County Fact-Finding Committee meeting at the West Nassau High School Cafetorium in Callahan.

During the meeting, committee members discussed what they have heard so far throughout the fact-finding process, interesting information and perspectives they have learned, and clarified the Committee’s role in gathering information related to potential data center development and its impacts on Nassau County. The discussion also included committee dialogue and citizen comments.

The next Fact-Finding Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the BOCC Commission Chambers in Yulee.

Currently, the scheduled speaker is:

​The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted last night to approve a temporary moratorium on the acceptance, review, and approval of applications for development permits, development orders, rezonings, or site plans related to data center facilities in Nassau County.

The first public hearing on the proposed moratorium was held on April 13, 2026, with the second and final hearing taking place last night. Ordinance No. 2026-044 establishes the moratorium for up to 12 months while the County continues to review, study and hold public workshops and hearings to prepare and adopt amendments to its Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Regulations, and Code of Ordinances as necessary to address the demands of data center facilities. 

The Nassau County Fact-Finding Committee will continue gathering information related to environmental impacts, water consumption, electrical demand, infrastructure capacity, land use compatibility, economic impacts, and other issues associated with data center development before providing findings to the BOCC for future policy consideration.

The next Fact-Finding Committee meeting will be held tonight at 5:00 p.m. at the West Nassau High School Cafetorium in Callahan and will consist of citizen comments and committee discussion.

​The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has approved the establishment of the Nassau County Fact-Finding Committee on Data Center Development as part of the County’s ongoing evaluation of data center development and related public policy considerations.

The BOCC is considering a temporary (up to twelve months) moratorium ordinance, to allow County Commissioners and staff sufficient time to evaluate the operational characteristics, infrastructure demands, environmental considerations, and community impacts associated with data center development.  The BOCC held the first public hearing regarding the proposed moratorium on May 11, 2026, with a second and final hearing scheduled on June 8, 2026.

The Committee, comprised of County staff, was established on May 20, 2026, in conjunction with the County’s consideration of a temporary moratorium.  The Committee will consolidate research and testimony received to assist in the evaluation of issues related to environmental impacts, water consumption, electrical demand and generation, land use compatibility, infrastructure capacity, economic and fiscal impacts, legal parameters of Florida State Law, and other issues associated with data center development.

The Committee will conduct a series of public meetings over the summer that will allow citizens the opportunity to provide comments related to data center development. In addition, the public meetings series will be used as a platform to host a speaker series where subject matter experts will provide relevant information and perspective on data centers.

The Committee is not a decision-making board and will not make any policy determinations.  The Committee’s work will culminate in a report or memorandum presented to the BOCC for future discussion where reasonable, balanced, and legally defensible public policy related to data center development will be considered. To ensure effective and efficient public meetings and Committee work, the Northeast Florida Regional Council (NEFRC) will moderate Committee meetings. 

The Committee consists of County staff members with expertise in planning, engineering, environmental sciences, land development, finance, and economic development. Members are as follows:
