Join us in our Engagement Tent at the Tree Lighting tonight to learn how your input directly contributed to the multi award-winning Vision 2050 Plan. You could also win a Nassau County holiday ornament!

On June 23, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners approved Nassau Vision 2050, after intensive community engagement. The final product is a long-term vision for Nassau County as we plan the next 25 years.

Feedback collected was used to create the Community Building Blocks, which reflect the overarching themes identified early in the process, and to shape the final growth scenario that illustrates the desired character of growth across the County and highlights priority areas for development.

Come see how the BOCC is using Nassau Vision 2050 as the Foundational document to update Nassau County’s Comprehensive Plan. While in the Tent, enjoy a fun, interactive activity highlighting each Comprehensive Plan element and earn some event swag. Complete all the activities to earn your very own Nassau County holiday ornament!

Road Closure Notification

12/4/2025

12/4/25 @ 12:00 p.m.

Please be advised that contractor Anderson Columbia Company, Inc. is conducting work related to the future resurfacing of County Road 121, including the extension and replacement of drainage culverts at various locations within the project area.
The contractor recently placed signs notifying residents of a complete closure on CR 121 approximately 0.36 miles north of Ground Hog Place and approximately 0.32 miles south of Horseshoe Circle, with a notation that “local traffic” may pass. Please note that “local traffic” refers only to homeowners who reside between these referenced signs and the complete closure, to allow access and service to their properties. The road is blocked at the point of closure, and no motorists may travel across that point until the project is finished in approximately 60 days.

A detour has been established as follows:
Detour route to access the north side of the closure: US 90 East → US 301 North → CR 119 West
Detour route to access the south side of the closure: CR 119 East → US 301 South → US 90 West

A full closure is required due to removal of the guardrail and other modifications that create hazards for motorists and workers.  The BOCC and the contractor recognize that the detour is causing additional travel time for residents; however, this short-term inconvenience will result in long-term improvements that enhance travel conditions, strengthen infrastructure, and ultimately improve safety for all who use County Road 121.

Resurfacing of County Road 121 from the Duval County line to County Road 119 has been a long-standing priority of the Board of County Commissioners. In 2022, the County was awarded $9 million in Legislative funding to support this project, followed by an additional $9 million grant from FDOT in 2023 to assist with funding the $20.6 million project. The project design was completed by Kimley-Horn in March 2025, and contractors are now making necessary improvements to surrounding infrastructure ahead of the upcoming resurfacing work.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Project Administrator Alan Floyd at 386-389-1645 or via e-mail at [email protected].

Governance and leadership are key priorities within Nassau County’s strategic plan. The county’s top goal is to “create a more effective, efficient, and transparent government,” which includes investing in human capital by recruiting, developing, and retaining high-quality staff. As Nassau County continues to grow, it is essential to cultivate leadership at all levels to meet both current and future needs, and the county is committed to strengthening leadership competencies across the entire organization.

In 2025, Nassau County launched its first leadership development initiative, the Leadership Skill Enhancement & Employee Development Training Program (LSEED). Developed by Dr. Peyton Beattie with UF’s Department of Agricultural Education & Communication and facilitated by Dr. Taylor Clem with UF/IFAS Extension Nassau County, the program is grounded in John Maxwell’s 360-degree leadership philosophy, which teaches that individuals can lead effectively from any position. Training modules introduced foundational concepts in leadership, self-awareness, communication and conflict management, teamwork, and navigating change. As part of the program, each participant created individualized leadership objectives to work toward over the next year, helping align leadership development with their specific roles and responsibilities.

Seven county employees completed the inaugural training and contributed to building a framework for continued leadership development, including a future mentorship component. All participants reported increased knowledge of leadership concepts and demonstrated improvement in leadership competencies. In 2026, Nassau County will continue its efforts to grow a culture of leadership throughout the organization, efforts that ultimately support a more effective, efficient, and transparent government for residents.

Stay Alert: Wildfire Safety Tips for Nassau County Residents

12/3/2025

Picture
12/3/25 @ 11:15 a.m.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management recently reminded residents to remain vigilant about wildfire prevention as much of the state experiences drier-than-normal conditions. While several neighboring counties have already implemented burn bans, Nassau County currently does not currently have one in effect. However, Fire Chief Brady Rigdon is closely monitoring conditions and urges the community to take proactive steps to protect lives and property. Simple precautions such as avoiding activities that could ignite sparks or open flames, maintaining clear defensible space, and keeping fire safety equipment readily accessible, can make a significant difference in preventing wildfires. By staying aware and taking these simple steps, every resident can help keep Nassau County safe from wildfire risks.

If you have any questions, please contact Nassau County Fire Rescue Headquarters at (904) 530-6600.

Recycle Right During the Holiday Season - Tips for a Greener Celebration

12/2/2025

PictureAlt Text: Eight black Christmas tree icons and two recycling bins on a green background, with the text "Holiday Recycling Do's & Don'ts" at the bottom.
12/2/25 @ 9:00 a.m. -

The holiday season is full of giving, gathering—and let’s be honest—a lot of extra waste. From shipping boxes and wrapping paper to leftovers and packaging, it can really add up. The good news? With a little planning and help from local resources, you can keep your holidays festive and eco-friendly. Nassau County residents can take advantage of our convenient recycling drop-off sites and use the downloadable Residential Recycling Guide to make waste-wise choices all season long. (Spanish-language Guide also available.)

1. Tackle the Tower of Boxes
Online shopping ramps up during the holidays, and so does the pile of shipping boxes. Before recycling remove all packing materials (plastic film, bubble wrap, Styrofoam), and flatten boxes to save space in the recycling bin. Both corrugated cardboard (shipping boxes) and boxboard (like tissue or cereal boxes) are recyclable when clean and dry.

2. Holiday Tech Upgrades? Recycle the Rest!
Upgrading your TV, computer, or tablet this season? Don’t toss old electronics in the trash—they contain materials that can be hazardous to the environment. County residents can drop off electronics for recycling at the Convenience Recycling Center. Tube TVs can also be dropped off at this location for waste disposal.

Batteries (especially lithium-ion) are not safe for recycling. They can cause fires in trucks and facilities—never place these items in recycling bins.

3. Out With the Old: What to Do with Household Goods
Decluttering this holiday season? Whether you’re making room for new gifts or tackling a New Year cleanup, don’t send usable items to the landfill. Many household goods can be reused or donated, including gently used kitchenware and dishes, blankets and linens, towels, and more. If you’re unsure where to take something, check out the A-Z Lookup Tool on the Keep Nassau Beautiful website for donation or disposal options.

For household goods that are not in good enough condition to be donated, residents can bring items such as damaged furniture, mattresses, broken children’s toys, and stained or torn clothing to the Convenience Recycling Center for disposal. Appliances and white goods that no longer work or are not suitable for donation can also be dropped off at this location.

4. Wrap Smarter, Not Harder
Not all wrapping paper is recyclable. Foil, glittery, or laminated papers must go in the trash, not the recycling bin. Here's a quick test: if you crumple the paper and it stays crumpled, it’s likely recyclable. If it springs back or has embellishments, it's not.

Happy holidays from all of us—and thank you for recycling right!

The Community Stewards of Yulee, Inc. is a local non-profit organization who serves the Yulee community by hosting charity events and promoting community engagement. For the third year, they are hosting a holiday light decorating contest, "Light Up Yulee" and are encouraging homeowners and businesses west of the Shave Bridge to Tributary (just west of I-95) and on US 17 south and north to the County line to decorate their properties for the holiday season.

To enter the contest, email a photo of your decorated property to [email protected] anytime before December 25, 2025. Entries will be judged on attractiveness, creativity and scale of holiday-themed decor. Decorations should be tasteful and kid friendly. Entries will be judged by a judging committee and will be announced to the public in January 2026.

Please join us in wishing Commissioner Klynt Farmer a very happy birthday today!

A proud, lifelong resident of Nassau County, Commissioner Farmer currently represents District Five, which includes the Callahan and the West Yulee area. When he’s not serving the public, you’ll likely find him enjoying the great outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and golfing.
