Saturday, November 29, 2025, if Small Business Saturday, a nationwide shopping day recognized on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  It was created to encourage people to support small, locally owned businesses during the busy holiday shopping season.

The BOCC encourages  Nassau County residents to kick off their holiday shopping by supporting the small businesses that make our community special. When you shop local, you’re doing more than checking gifts off your list. You’re helping strengthen our local economy, supporting local jobs, and keeping our downtowns vibrant and unique. From the family-owned shops to the neighborhood eateries and artisans, every purchase makes a meaningful difference.

Let’s show our small businesses some love today and throughout the holiday season.

11/21/25 at 7:00 p.m. -

The Florida Division of Emergency Management sent out a reminder for residents to stay vigilant about wildfire prevention as we experience drier-than-normal conditions around the State. While there is currently no burn ban in effect in Nassau County, everyone should take extra precautions to reduce the risk of fire.

Simple steps such as properly disposing of yard waste, avoiding activities that cause open flames or sparks, and keeping fire safety equipment accessible can make a big difference.

Nassau County Fire Chief Brady Rigdon is monitoring conditions closely and urges the community to stay alert and proactive in protecting lives and property.

Board Approves Legislative Priorities for 2026

11/20/2025

11/20/25 @ 8:45 a.m.

Each year, in coordination with the Nassau County Legislative Delegation, the Board of County Commissioners submits a prioritized list of local funding initiative requests for the Florida Legislature to consider as part of their annual budgeting process..

At the Wednesday, October 15, 2025, meeting, the BOCC discussed its top legislative priorities for the 2026 session:

Historic Courthouse Tower Repairs/Replacement
The County is seeking $500,000 in Legislative funding to reclad the existing cupola and replacement of the clock tower.

Courthouse Redesign and new courtroom
The County is seeking $500,000 to add two additional courtrooms at the Robert M. Foster Justice Center.

Sheriff's Work Ethics and Training (SWEAT) Program
The County is seeking for $125,000 to allow the Sheriff's Office to continue tutoring and mentoring services for at-risk youth.

Thomas Creek Restoration Project
The County is seeking a $1 million match to assist in obtaining properties identified in the Thomas Creek Implementation Plan and return the floodplain to its original state.

I-95 Interchange
The Nassau County Mobility Plan, Northeast Florida Transportation Planning Organization, and the State of Florida approved the East Nassau Community Planning Area Sector Plan which identifies a new interchange to be located on I-95 between the SR2000/A1A interchange and the US Highway 17 interchange. This new interchange will provide a critical parallel corridor to SR200/A1A and represents an opportunity to expand the County's economic base. The County is seeking $7 million for Preliminary Design and Engineering for a future interchange.

As the Wednesday, November 19, 2025 meeting, the Board added an additional priority project, following a recent meeting with the Sheriff's Office:

K-9 Unit Regional Training Facility- Public Safety Training Complex
Phase III of the Public Safety Training Center includes plans for a K-9 Unit Regional Training Facility with indoor and outdoor training environments that will serve as a regional hub for K-9 training and certification. The BOCC is seeking $1 million for this project.

County staff continues to work with members of the Delegation, partner agencies and the County's contracted lobbyist to prepare for another successful Legislative Session. Now that the projects have been identified, the County will complete all the necessary State forms. Our Lobbyist and our State Legislatures will then advocate in Tallahassee on our behalf during the upcoming Legislative Session.

Save Water, Save Costs: The District's Water Conservation Program

11/14/2025

11/14/25 @ 3:30 p.m.

This is just a friendly reminder that the St. Johns River Water Management District’s mandatory watering restrictions are in effect to help protect our water resources while still allowing landscapes to stay healthy year-round. These rules outline when you can water, how much you can apply, and which days watering is permitted.

Watering days depend on whether your address ends in an odd or even number, and the schedule also varies by time of year. Be sure to follow the designated watering windows based on our Eastern Standard Time zone, which helps ensure irrigation happens during the most efficient hours.

To further support conservation efforts, the District also offers a Water Conservation Cost-Share Rebate Program. This program provides financial assistance for approved water-saving projects and upgrades. The cost-share rebate will be up to 50% of actual costs with a not-to-exceed designated maximum amount per item/service. (Note: Labor, installation and design costs from a third party or contractor are included as eligible expenses.) Applicants cannot receive more than $10,000 in rebates per year. Approved programs will be rebated on a “first-come, first-served” basis until program funds are depleted.

Interested applicants—including local governments, HOAs, utilities, and multi-family property owners—can learn more and apply through the District’s website.

By following the watering schedule and taking advantage of conservation opportunities, residents and organizations can help protect water resources while keeping landscapes healthy and vibrant.

Waste Tire Amnesty Day Results

11/12/2025

11/12/25 @ 3:00 p.m. -

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Nassau County Solid Waste hosted the Waste Tire Amnesty Day event, giving residents the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted tires. A total of 564 tires were collected and properly recycled, helping to keep our community clean and protect the environment.

Improperly discarded tires can pose serious environmental hazards. They can collect rainwater, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests, and when burned or left to decompose, they can release harmful chemicals into the air, soil, and water. Recycling or properly disposing of tires helps reduce these risks and supports a healthier Nassau County.
The County extends a big thank-you to our Public Works and Solid Waste employees for their hard work in organizing and operating this event, and to all the residents who participated for doing their part to ensure tires are disposed of safely and responsibly.

The next Waste Tire Amnesty Day Event will be scheduled for the Spring of 2026. Residents are reminded that each household may dispose of up to four (4) car or truck tires per year, free of charge, at the Convenience Recycle Center, located at 46026 Landfill Road in Callahan (with proof of residency). Proper disposal helps ensure tires are safely managed and reused in environmentally responsible ways.
