Stay Clear of Flooded Roads

​As a reminder, never walk, swim or drive through standing water. If you encounter standing water, please "turn around, don't drown." Just 6 inches of water can knock you over and just one foot of moving water can carry a car away.   


If you have information about severe weather impacts in your area or photos of flooding, washed-out roadways or culverts, please using Emergency Management's severe weather reporting system to let us know.

Public offices and facilities will remain closed tomorrow, Friday, September 27, 2024. Public Works and essential personnel will be working on storm damage and recovery.

SANDBAGS AVAILABLE AGAIN FRIDAY
To assist residents, sandbag operations will resume Friday at 12:00 noon through 7:00 p.m at all three locations listed below. At this time, only self-service sites will be available.

Yulee Ballpark

Hilliard Road Department
37356 Pea Farm Road

Beach Driving Temporarily Suspended

Please be advised that Beach Driving will be temporarily suspended beginning at 6 PM today. This includes the county beaches (Peters Point south to the State Park) and the segment of City Beach by Slider’s (Seaside Park).

It is asked that all residents and visitors stay off the beaches as higher than normal tides are expected throughout the evening and into the day on Friday 9/27.

Hurricane Helene Update

​Hurricane Helene’s path has continued to slowly move towards the east. Because of these changes we are expecting strong tropical storm force winds across all of Nassau County.


Conditions are deteriorating now and will continue to decline with the worst of the impacts expected in the overnight hours.

Please take this time to get to your place of shelter and remain indoors until the storm passes.

If your current situation does not meet your needs there is still time to get to the shelter.

Nassau County currently has one shelter open:

Location : Wildlight Elementary School
550 Curiosity Ave - Yulee, FL 32097

If transportation is needed please contact the EOC at 904-548-0900 to arrange

Uber is also offering free rides to shelter locations using promo code “HELENERELIEF”

There are currently no evacuation orders for Nassau County, however, we encourage all persons that are power dependent special needs or in flood prone areas to shelter at a safe location that meets your specific needs.

Emergency Shelter is Pet Friendly

​The emergency shelter at Wildlight Elementary is open for Nassau County residents, including those with special needs or need special accommodations. It is also Pet Friendly!


Nassau County Animal Services is at the site and available to help.

Hurricane Helene continues to push ever so slightly to the east. These movements have increased the potential for strong tropical force winds throughout the area along with a significant threat for tornadoes.

Now is the time to move to your place of shelter while the weather is still clear enough to do so.

Quickly complete any last-minute preparations that you may have for your home and property.

Hurricane Helene continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico as it moves north-northeast towards the Florida Big Bend region.

Conditions in Nassau County are expected to slowly deteriorate over the next several hours with tropical storm force winds expected throughout the evening and into the morning.

Please finish whatever preparations you need to make soon and seek shelter in a safe place.

HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE - 1015am 9/26

Recent forecast updates have indicated a slight shift in Hurricane Helene’s track to the east. With that, we are expecting an increase in the level and duration of tropical storm force winds in Nassau County.
There are currently no evacuation orders for Nassau County, however, we encourage all persons that are power dependent special needs or in flood prone areas to shelter at a safe location that meets your specific needs.

The shelter at Wildlight Elementary is opened today (9/26) at 8:00 a.m.
