Commissioner A.M. "Hupp" Huppmann presenting a Proclamation to Alivea Maynard with the Women's Center of Jacksonville At its Monday, March 23 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) proudly approved a proclamation designating April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
This year marks 25 years of progress in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and working toward prevention. With the theme “25 Years Strong: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” the month serves as both a reflection on how far we’ve come and a renewed commitment to creating safer, more supportive communities for all.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a time to honor the courage of survivors who have shared their stories and the advocates who continue to lead efforts for change. It also reminds us that prevention is possible when we act with intention, supporting one another, practicing consent, and fostering environments rooted in care and respect.
The BOCC joins community partners and residents in recommitting to a future free from sexual violence, one where healing is supported, awareness is strengthened, and every individual feels safe and valued.
A special thank you to the Women's Center of Jacksonville for their continued advocacy, support for survivors, and for attending the meeting to stand alongside the community in this important effort.
