Hopefully, you got to enjoy this rare winter wonderland—building snowmen, having snowball fights, making snow angels, or snapping some incredible photos. A huge thank you to our residents for sharing your Nassau County Snow Day memories with us, and to the Amelia Island Museum of History for providing amazing photos from the snowstorms of 1899 and 1989! This is truly one for the history books, so be sure to save your photos—who knows, in 30 years, we might need you to share them again! If you’d like to see more historical snowstorm photos and other local history, visit the Amelia Island Museum of History in person at 233 S. Third Street, Fernandina Beach or visit their website at: https://ameliamuseum.org/ ![]() 1/31/25 @ 2:00 p.m. - On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the Planning & Zoning Board hosted a Workshop regarding the Timber to Tides (T2T) Design Overlay, a proposed regulatory document that would enforce the principles and priority actions established in the State Road 200/A1A Corridor Master Plan adopted by Resolution in December 2021. The meeting included a presentation by Senior Planner Josh Macbeth followed by open discussions between staff and Planning & Zoning Board members. The P&Z Workshop can be viewed here. The T2TDO consists of Transect Based Zoning (TBZ) standards, first established in the William Burgess District, and expands upon this foundation by employing Community-Based Design Standards (CBDS) and priority programs specific to the SR 200/A1A Corridor. Transect zones depict the transition of development form from rural to urban, ranging from natural preserved areas to urban core, and allows for special districts that fall outside these typical transect designations. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., the Board of County Commissioners will have a Workshop to discuss the proposed Timber to Tides Overlay Design. There will be no action taken at the Workshop. Should the Board determine it would like to move forward and consider adoption of the T2T Design Overlay, a public hearing will be scheduled and advertised for the public. Please note that the BOCC Workshop will be live streamed so residents can watch remotely if unable to attend in person. A recording of the meeting will also be available following the conclusion of the meeting at www.nassauclerk/watch-meetings. All information regarding the T2T Design Overlay can be located here on our official website. Questions? Please contact Senior Planner Josh Macbeth at (904) 530-6323 or via email at [email protected]. -Sabrina Robertson Communications Officer 1/31/25 @ 1:15 p.m.

During the closures, motorists will not be able to cross the St. Mary’s Bridge and will be detoured to I-95 to cross the river. About the St. Mary's Bridge: The St. Mary’s Bridge was constructed in 1927 and is a movable swing bridge, where the center span twists to open for vessels. The bridge is completely manual and requires a crew to unlock the vessel, manually turn the bridge and relock the bridge when vessels request an opening. -Sabrina Robertson Public Information Officer ![]() 1/31/25 @ 4:00 a.m. Happy 90th Birthday to American Beach! Founded on January 31, 1935 by the Pension Bureau of the Afro-American Life Insurance Company, American Beach was developed as an ocean front resort for the Pension Bureau's employees and shareholders. During the period of racial segregation in America, American Beach became known to hundreds of thousands as the Negro Playground, and was a home in Paradise to many. Today, community members take pride in caring for and preserving this unique community. The Board of County Commissioners commends all those who contribute to these efforts and maintaining this gem hidden in Nassau County. Pictured: Beach crowd in the 1940s. Representatives from Florida Public Utilities are already onsite working on this issue which we hope will be resolved within the next 2-3 hours. Anyone needing to access Chester Road north of David Hallman Parkway or Chester Road south of David Hallman Parkway will need to find an alternate route. Thank you for your patience. We will let everyone know when it has reopened. Sabrina Robertson Communications Officer 1/28/25 @ 5:00 p.m. - On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners hosted its second annual Government Field Day for all County employees and their families. Government Field Day included a kickball tournament, inflatables, adoptable pets from Nassau County Animal Services, and food trucks. The event allowed County employees to interact with their co-workers outside of the office environment, improving relationships and comradery. The event also provided an opportunity for employees and their families to enjoy the outdoors while doing activities that are beneficial to their health. The Board of County Commissioners cares about its employees and strives to improve employee health by encouraging physical activity and promoting healthy eating habits. In addition to the annual Government Field Day Event, the BOCC offers its employees quarterly healthcare challenges with prizes, annual health fairs, employee reimbursements for certain health related activities such as 5Ks and weight loss programs, and health screenings, all of which are funded by our insurance carrier through its benefits package. These programs are not only beneficial to the employee, but to the organization as a whole as better healthcare screenings result in lower insurance premiums. At this time, we would like to congratulate the teal team (made up of employees from the Clerks' office) on winning first place in the kickball tournament! We would also like to extend our appreciation to the BOCC's Human Resources Department for coordinating this fun event and spreading the importance of health and wellness for every employee. -Sabrina Robertson Communications Officer |
