As sea turtles return to our beaches to nest through October, we’re excited to welcome another season of this incredible natural tradition along our coastline. During nesting season, residents and visitors are encouraged to help protect sea turtles by keeping beaches clean, dark, and flat.
Please also remember that beach bonfires are not permitted during sea turtle nesting season. In addition, motor vehicle and horseback riding access on the beach is limited to the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout the season.
We’re grateful for the dedicated volunteers with Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch, who walk the beaches each morning searching for signs of nests, monitoring activity, and helping protect these threatened species. If you encounter an injured sea turtle, hatchlings, or a possible nest, never touch or move them. Instead, contact Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch directly at (904) 583-1913 for assistance.
Be sure to visit their website throughout the season for updates on identified nests, educational information, and upcoming nest excavation schedules. Here’s to another successful nesting season on Amelia Island!
