Day 6 of countdown to #floridagophertortoiseday 🐢 we introduce a rare non-venomous and beautiful snake. The Eastern Indigo Snake (Drymarchon couperi) is the largest snake native to Florida and longest in the United States. The longest specimen was 9.2 feet! Due to habitat loss they are currently listed as federally threatened in Florida and Georgia. During the winter months they utilize gopher tortoise burrows.
