This is a wonderful and wonderfully amusing book for precocious kids everywhere. It’s kind of predictable, but the author knows that and makes sure to point out all the predictable parts with a subtle joke. There are puzzles to be solved and the reader gets a chance to try to solve them before the characters do, and the solutions are explained in a way that teaches the reader a new way of looking at similar problems in the future. All of the kids have different ways of looking at the puzzles, too, so that the young reader learns that there’s no one right way to solve a problem and that sometimes it takes more than one way to do it. And this is the first book in a series, so your precocious kid will have more to enjoy later.
