Throughout the emails and letters that make up this book, we learn about the very strange series of events leading up to this trip to Antarctica, including arguments between Bernadette and a fellow school mom and neighbor called Audrey that culminate in an amazing scene involving a hillside recently stripped of its blackberry bushes, an eight-foot by five-foot sign insulting the Galer Street moms, and some heavy rain. On the other hand, a lack of communication between Bernadette and her husband leads to a scene in which an intervention is interrupted by an FBI investigation. The whole book has this absurdist tone, reminiscent of TV shows like Arrested Development (which the author worked on), so if you like that sort of thing you should definitely pick up this book.
